Pours to a deep black with ruby hues in the light, thick tan head that settles quickly and sticks stubbornly to the sides of my glass.
Smell is deep and heavy, cooked grains with honey. A little agitation in the glass reveals a bit more honey in the nose than my initial snort.
Flavor is BIG roasted malt upfront with a sharp, astringent hop. Taste settles to the nuances of the honey with the bitterness remaining.
Fizzy mouthfeel to be expected with a porter.
Very good interpretation of the style. I've been having fun with the Samuel Adams samplers lately and this beer, just like the last few I've had, have been very accurate to the style and very quaffable.
