Brewed with licorice, a proprietary hand-smoked malt and almost a pound of East Kent Goldings hops per barrel.

Served in a pint glass, the beer pours a dark brown with an inch creamy tan head. Lots of lace stayed on the glass while I was drinking the beer. It smells like molasses, roasted malt and licorice. It tastes mostly like malt and molasses, and the licorice isn't as strong in the taste of the beer. There's a hoppy bitter aftertaste which lingers around a while after taking a drink. It has a good mix of sweetness and bitterness. The mouthfeel is light/medium (closer to light), and it goes down relatively easy. It's not like any porter I've had before, but I thought it was a nice change. It's the best of the Brewer Patriot collection I've had so far (this is the 3rd). If they ever decided to sell this separately, I'd buy some every once in a while. Not a bad beer at all, I liked this one.
