Presentation: Typical Sam Adams 12oz brown pop-top with a nice classic label
Appearance: Brilliant dark red/amber beer with a nice light tan cap that fades to a persistent, sticky ring.
Smell: A delightful mix of sweet caramel and warm, toasty, grainy bread. A slight earthy hop presence is noticeable in the background.
Taste: Smooth, light caramel flavors with a strong bready aftertaste. Sweetness is there but not overpowering, and there's a nice hop twinge at the end, noticeable more in terms of bitterness than flavor (the label says they use Goldings and use a bit more than typical for the style to achieve this). Overall, nice, simple, and perfectly balanced.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied; substantial yet refreshing.
Drinkability: Tasty, smooth, highly drinkable amber ale.
Conclusion: Simple, to the point, and nicely balanced. Just how I like my Irish Reds.
Serving type: bottle
