Served in a new style Sam Adams glass. This IP poured a dark gold with a bit of a red/copper tint usually reserved for IPA's. Topped with an inch thick head of dense off white foam, this is an inviting looking brew.
Definate citrus hop oils on the nose, but also an tinge of herbal aromas. There is no doubt left from the smell that you will soon be riding the Humulus Lupulus train into unknown territories.
Much more balanced (not really, but for lack of a better term) than I'd expected. Soft notes of honey and flowery hops, followed by an intense citric twang, grapefruit rinds and essential citrus oils were abound. Just enough malt in the back end to support the generous usage of Hallertau hops. An almost smoky/woody finish with a hint of hot alcohol.
Mouthfeel is smooth as silk with a slight layer of hop oil left on the tongue and lips with each sip. Deceptively smooth and easy drinking, the 8.8% will sneak up on you and remind you this is no ordinary brew.
Another winner from Sam Adams. Their awesome usage of hops has me thinking about that Longshot DIPA we should see some time this year. A must try for hop heads.
