In my mind there is definitely a right way and a wrong way to try and pull off a beer like this. The BBC did it right.
This is a highly attactive brew. In good light ti takes on light golden notes when back lit but is primarily a hazy orange. A standard pour revealed a vigorous two fingered white sticky head that laced well and retained a creamy sheen well down to the last few sips.
The smell of this brew gives at least one thing away, there are a few hops in here aren't there? Strong floral and citrus with tinges of earthy and grassy hops with an ever so slight alky tinge.
Hops bite first but they are CLEAN and spicy. Definitely a signature of the Hallertau. Along with all the hops is a simply sublime malt signature to this beer that really influences a fuller body. The body of this beer ends up being one of the most enjoyable aspects. It's really nice to have the grassy bitterness just sit on the outside of the tongue on the finish and then get that familiar pils tang after feeling this thing slide right down. Very well done. This brew packs a stealth bomber punch as well and is highly drinkable for the abv, almost too much so.

This beer is sorely missed! It was the first hop monster I had, and I had it at a time when I was not keen on the hop--much more into the malty beers. But this was a home run with me right off the bat. I wish Jim Koch and team would make it again. Anyone know if they will?
In short, this beer is so dry and yet so creamy. Quite an amazing beer!
