Samuel Adams Harvest Pumpkin Ale
12 oz brown bottle
Best by February 2012 notched on the side label
Served in 20 oz tulip glass
Tomorrow marks the official beginning of Fall, clearly my favorite of the four seasons. The nights are becoming cooler and the air more crisp with a welcoming breeze. It's a matter of time before the New England leaves begin to change and display a robust cornucopia of aesthetic delights.
Given my enthusiasm for the season, it only makes sense that I sample a Harvest Pumpkin Ale from Sam Adams tonight. This beer pours a chestnut brown with reddish highlights on the bottom of the glass. A minimal and disappointing head forms on top.
Whiffs of malts, cereal, all spice and metal.
There is a chewy caramel malt backbone. I detect some classic Fall flavors in this beer; cinnamon, all spice, pumpkin and black pepper. The pumpkin flavors become more prevalent with each sip and I appreciate that. There is a nice mini hop snap on the finish.
