Picked up the 2011 Harvest Collection 12 pack, which contains the Pumpkin Ale as the highlight and their newly bottled Rauchebier.

First beer of the night, and with the temperatures lingering at or above 100 degrees, it definitely does not feel like Fall yet.

This beer has your typical rustic amber body, highlights of orange and ruby with strong carbonation along with a fluffy white half inch head.

Aroma is very aromatic, fresh baked pumpkin with spices. Cinnamon, all spice, cloves, nutmeg. Rich with sweetness. Caramel and earthy malt base.

Taste is huge for the ABV, very reminiscent of Dogfish Heads Pumpkin Ale. Very much like the nose, with a stronger malt presence. Spices are strong but lead to a slick mouthfeel. Strong yet delicious.

Harvest Pumpkin Ale has some surprisingly good characteristics. It's a much bigger beer than it really is. The flavors are highly present and very assertive. You can drink one of these and thoroughly enjoy it and then move onto something more sessionable.

Appearance: Clear deep amber in color with a large, dense off-white head, which persists quite well. Thin Belgian-type lacing coats the glass walls. The carbonation is slight and slow-rising. (3.75/5.0)

Aroma: Pumpkin pie spices dominates the aroma, with cloves and cinnamon particularly notable. Pumpkin is also prominent, as well as dark malt and a mild grassy hop presence. (4.0/5.0)

Taste: Opens with prominent pumpkin, dark malt, and pumpkin pie spices. As the taste progresses, the pumpkin pie spices really shine, with cinnamon being particularly notable. Brown sugar is also prominent. Throughout the taste, there is an undercurrent of pumpkin. Finishes with lingering pumpkin, pumpkin pie spices, and mild herbal hops. (4.0/5.0)

Mouth feel: Smooth soft and pleasant, with zesty carbonation, (3.75/4.0)

Drinkability/notes: Very nice, one of the nicer pumpkin seasonals, well worth a try. It seems a fitting companion to the Autumn Equinox tonight. (4.0/5.0)

Presentation: Packagedin a twelve-ounce brown glass long-neck bottle, served in a Samuel Adams Boston Lager sensory glass.

Poured into a standard pint a rich deep rich copper/bronze with a thinner slight off white head atop, aromas are not overspiced wich is a very good thing, toasty with a little cardamom and mace, faint cinnamon in there as well.A lighter mouthfeel detracts from the flavors and richness of the beer in my opinion.Flavors have a real pumpkin flair to them, again the spice is held in check well, and its quite warm and toasty.A solid pumpkin ale, bump up the body on this and it would be great.

Very pretty beer. In a pint glass was a beautiful cherry amber color with a tan head.
It smelled like a pumpkin pie: pumpkin and spice.
Tasted like pumpkin pie also, with a little bit of caramel malt.
Very smooth.
Not a big pumpkin beer fancier, but this one was pretty good.

A - Pours deep amber with two fingers of creamy head that has decent retention.

S - Nice pumpkin aroma up front, with some cinnamon and nutmeg. Spice aromas seem more secondary than in pumpkin beers. Also a nice caramel malt presence.

T - The spices are way more pronounced in the taste than the smell, undesirably so. All pumpkin elements from the aroma are completely overrun by the spices, especially on the finish. Smelled much better than it tasted.

M - Moderately creamy mouthfeel gives way to dryness from the spices on the finish.

O - Drinkable, but the overly intense spice isn't desirable.
