Re-review, because I said so. 12 oz bottle into a pint glass.
A: Pours a beautiful clear copper color. The cream-shaded head is nice - but not as nice as the body - at a bit over one fingers high, but isn't the best retaining.
S: Well, it's a pumpkin ale, so of course it's loaded with cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice. The spicing is heavy, but thankfully it's backed by a canvas of sweet caramel, toffee, and brown sugar.
T: Starts with some cinnamon and nutmeg flavors. This sort of descends into a generic finish laden with caramel and toffee. Only flashes of gourd character appear. There isn't much depth, or even much flavor for that matter.
M: Way, way, way too heavy on the palate given how mild it is. I say that a lot, and this is a prime example of that pratfall. It's not even that creamy, either. With medium carbonation, it feels nice enough on the tongue but clashes hard with the flavors presented.
O: It's okay I guess, but it's also boring and hard to drink - two qualities which NEVER go together. Put in the large pile of bland, not-very-good pumpkin ales while I stick with Schlafly Pumpkin Ale, kthx. At least it's better than I initially thought it to be ('course, I initially thought it to be horrid instead of just boring back then).

Poured from the bomber into a Sam Adams laser-etched glass.
Review from notes: January 18th, 2014.
A: Copper with thin white head. Good retention, some bubbles.
S: Pumpkin. Nutmeg and clove.
T: Sweet pumpkin, minimal spices. Very drinkable.
M: Nice carbonation, thin mouthfeel.
O: Good. I wasn't excited about this beer (it was in a fall sampler), but it wound up being a nice surprise. The best description for this beer is its name, "pumpkin ale". It tastes like an ale injected with pumpkin juice.
