I love love love subtle pumpkin beers. Here in Southern California, we get none. NONE. Ever. Well, now we get DFH Punkin Ale - but now that they use pumpkin extract isn't just not the same. I do still enjoy it, but it's a shell of its former self.
Per their website, SA uses real pumpkins in their ale. It provides a more natural, more subtle flavor and aroma. The nutmeg, cinnamon are there too, but just enough to get you thinking autumn in New England - something I miss all of the time.
The SA Harvest pack was nice last year, but replacing the dreadful Cherry Wheat with the Harvest Pumpkin Ale was the best move they could have done.
