Pours a really nice dark amber color with a medium sized, cream-colored head. However, the head dissipates immediately.
Smell is awesome on this pumpkin ale. Good, real pumpkin smell, which I really enjoy with a lot of the fake pumpkin beers out there. Real good strong malt smell and great cinnamon spices also.
Taste is very good. Great strong malts start this beer off and the main taste is a good, real pumpkin taste. The sip ends with a bit of a bite of spices and cinnamon.
Mouthfeel is nice for a pumpkin ale. A medium thickness and a good refreshing crispness to it that refreshes.
Drinkability is great for a pumpkin ale. Very balanced beer, but also has a ton of really good tastes to it. I really like some of the stronger pumpkin beers, but I wouldn't be able to drink more than one of them. This beer has a great pumpkin taste without overpowering the tastebuds. A sessionable pumpkin that refreshes and warms on an autumnal day.

Poured into a mug.

It's a clear brown, with a foamy off white head.

It smells faintly of pumpkin, not really any spice notes. Not very malty either.

At first the pumpkin flavor is hidden. But as the beer warmed it became much more prevalent. Maybe some faint nutmeg.

It was thinner than I would have liked and a bit more buubly too.

Overall, not a pumpkin beer I'd come back to. Like most Sam Adams beer, it's passable.

In a pint glass:

A: clear dark amber with a reddishness to it and had an average sized creamy off white head which produced some good lacing

S: strong toasted bread malt, pumpkin, sweet doughy yeast with notes of brown sugar, and nutmeg

T: sweet through mainly the malts bringing back the brown sugar

M: close to medium leaning slightly to the light side, slightly creamy, kinda sessionable, dry sweet aftertaste, quick sharp finish, some harshness on the tongue

O: good pumpkin ale from Sam Adams, I'd have this one again, great combination of the flavors all around

From the sampler pack and served in my SA perfect pint glass, the beer is a dark amber with good clarity and a tan head.

I like the aroma of spice, malts and pumpkin.

The taste is slightly sweet and grainy. There is lots of malt, pumpkin and not overpowering spices. I think this one hangs together very well.

The mouth has low carbonation and a touch of slickness to coat the tongue. I liked this as change of pumpkin. I t has less spice and more pumpkin than normal examples.

Aroma is heavily spicy with mild malt.
Appearance is orange amber with little head.
Mouthfeel is light not too heavy or strong, but needs more on this area.
Taste is huge spice up front that quickly fades to sublime malt and sweet clean finish with spice aftertaste.
Overall decent but too overspiced and spices not well balanced, needs better flavor of pumpkin, pretty light easy to drink, probably will not buy again until they redo the recipe for the beer.

12oz bottle into tulip snifter.
Best By: March 2011

Pours a clear amber color, with slight orange hue and a fizzy light tan head.

The aroma is of caramel and bready malt, with slight pumpkin and spice in the finish.

The taste follows the nose, graham cracker-esque malts followed by light pumpkin and spice notes.

The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied, with average carbonation.

I rarely give one score through every category, but this beer really was on all counts average. It certainly didn't disappoint, but in no way stood out.
