Single bottle (best by 12/2010) poured into a shaker pint glass.
Appearance: Cloudy yellow-orange with a white foam that dies down to nothing - just a thin ring around the edge of the glass. No lacing. A bit disappointing really in appearance.
Smell: When first poured - very strong blackberry smell. As it warms up the blackberry is still there, but a little more full and sweet.
Taste: Blackberry up front tempered by some malt sweetness with a hop-bitter finish. There is an ideal temperature for this flavor combination though - and it's not cold or slightly warmed. In between the blackberry is a bit sour, but by the time the beer warms up a bit, I think it gets better.
Mouthfeel: Spicy but fleeting carbonation that cleanses the palate. What is left behind is a bit chewy, but like the carbonation, leaves quickly. Interesting.
Drinkability: I can't see myself buying a six pack of this, but I'm glad I tried it. It went very well with a BLT sandwich on a warm day....but I'm not sure about having it alone. I've had better, but this combination of tart fruit and witbier do go well together.
