I picked up the Longshot sixer today at Clear Lake Specs (great store) and I was very excited. I have heard so much about the double IPA, that I got to it first.
A- Pours a hazy orange color, looks like an IPA should. Very little head and left some lacing on the glass.
S- probably the best aspect of this beer, what an amazing smell! Hops on top of hops with some wonderful citrus. Smells piny and makes your mouth water. I could sniff the bottle all night!
T- I like this, very smooth for a double. If I could do a home-brew like this I would be a happy guy, very impressive. This is a hop bomb! Lives up to the expectations, I have heard so much about this beer, that I was afraid of being let down, not to worry, this beer is wonderful. It has a mellow citrus taste, then the hops hit, piney and fresh, leaves a bitter taste in your mouth that makes you want more.
D- I could drink this anytime. Not too many at once, not a session beer, but for a one and done, it does the job. After every drink you crave more. The hops are dry and the mouth feel is dry as well. Very impressive beer.
Overall I really enjoyed this offering from Sam Adams, I am looking forward to trying the bock next, the cranberry...not so much. Great job Mike McDole you should be proud.
