This was my favorite wheat beer for the longest time. It was also my first. I haven't had it in forever, so my points for it go to nostalgia, but I know I'd still like it if I drank one now.

Appearance: Orangish/yellow; cloudy; effervescent; medium, frothy head

Aroma: Malty; slightly bready; citrusy

Taste: Juicy, malty, but a little thin; slight grapefruit citrus in the mid and finish; semi-sweet finish; refreshing, but not complex or impressive

Remarks: Did not score A, T, S, M at that time; disregard those scores

Poured from bottle into a pint glass

Appearance – Pours a lightly hazed golden orange color with a big creamy white head. The head has a nice level of retention, slowly fading to leave a lighter level of lacing.

Smell – The aroma is heavy of a grainy wheat bread and lemon aroma.

Taste – Overall the flavors don’t transition too much. The taste starts out with a more grainy wheat taste with a lighter citrus flavor. The tastes start out with a slightly drier flavor up front and takes on more sweetness more toward the middle. As the taste advances further the wheat gets less grainy (smoother) in nature with more lemon flavor coming to the tongue, souring the brew ever so slightly. In the end a smooth wheat and lemon flavor are left to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel- The body of the beer is average with a carbonation level that is rather low for the style of the beer. The body was quite appropriate for supporting the wheat flavor, although more carbonation would have been more fitting for the lemon flavors of the brew.

Overall – An alright beer, but nothing to call home about. This is one of my lesser favorites that Sam Adams produces. Even so it is not a bad brew.

12 ounce bottle -> World Market wheat beer glass

I didn't expect to like this, but it was much better than I thought it would be. It pours up a pale straw with a two finger white head which stays around for awhile. It doesn't leave a whole lot of lacing though. The smell is lemon, banana, and honey. Taste is fairly mild and mostly follows the nose. Mouthfeel is okay with some nice carbonation. Really an okay beer.

12 oz bottle dated BB July 2012 (so a little past BB date) served in a Unibroue snifter.

Pours a hazy golden-orange color with a rather small eggshell head. The head mostly disappears quickly.

AROMA: Fruity, mainly lemony, but with an unfortunate hint of old canned fruit.

M: Near medium body; Medium-light carbonation seems a tad low. Smooth.

T: Fruity with some lemon, as expected, as well as a vague impression of old canned fruits and ripe bananas. No sign of hops in this mildly sweet brew.

O: Profile is much more like a hefeweizen: not a beer style I seek out but even so, disappointing.

A: Pale straw yellow, decent wispy head at first but it quickly fades away to almost nothing, and leaves no lacing behind.

S: Wheat and a whiff of citrus.

T/M: Mild, pleasant wheaty flavor, not much body or variety to it. A little bit of citrus tang at the edges. Very thin, watery mouthfeel.

O: A not bad but unexciting wheat beer, pretty thin and light and refreshing, but really boring overall.

Poured from a bottle into a weisse vase, the beer is a pale, slightly hazed, goldenrod coloring with a thin, sparse, filmy white coating on the surface. Aromas of lemon, banana, and berries mix with some minty and herbal highlights. Flavors are more malty than you would expect, with a buttery and slightly toffee backbone. The herbs come forward again, this time as a slightly strong highlight. Overall, the flavors are a bit all over the place...they stumble into a lemony, sharp, muddled aftertaste. Slick, slightly oily finish. This was not a good brew, no matter how you look at it.

Poured from a bottle into a Samuel Adams pint glass.

Ah, it's been too long since I've had a Sam Adams... I wound up getting a Brewmaster Variety Pack. This was included with Irish Red and Latitude 48 IPA -- the latter of which I've already had.

Appearance: There's next to no head on this beer... none at all. It's very thing and wispy. As for the lacing, there's none of that to speak of. The color of the beer is nice... a hazy yellow color that reminds me of Mountain Dew when I put it up to the light.

Smell: Very wheat-heavy, with traces of citrus in there as well. Pleasant, but nothing overpowering or too exciting.

Taste: Above average, but nothing that'll make your pupils dilate. I feel like this could well be Samuel Adam's summer beer because it's really easy to drink. Clean, wheaty, citrusy... tasty.

Mouthfeel: Watery, with mild carbonation, but smooth as it foams up a bit on your tongue. Pretty average.

Overall, I really like Coastal Wheat. Far from my favorite Sam Adams beer, but I'll have no problem drinking the other that's in the six-pack. Another good offering from S.A.

Bottle poured into a Sam Adams pint glass, blah blah blah.

Hazy golden yellow appearance, slowly dissipating head. Tastes lemony with a light mouthfeel. Carbonation is barely there.

Refreshing however loses points for an odd aftertaste. Others have described it as pledge-like and I would agree.

I don't see why Sam Adams keeps this going with the similar (and better) summer ale available. Probably won't purchase again.

Samuel Adams Coastal Wheat has a thick, white head and a hazy (especially after swishing) yellow-orange, bubbly appearance. There is not much lacing with this. The aroma is faint, but one does pick up lemons and a little bit of bread. Taste is of lemons and a little bit of sweet bread. No bitterness here. Mouthfeel is watery, and Samuel Adams Coastal Wheat finishes crisp, clean, and lager like. Well, this tastes like lemon soda. It went well with my breakfast (egg & bacon sandwich). This almost tastes like something that Big Shot beverages would produce. It’s pretty good. Girls would like it.

This is a yellow-gold colored beer with a faint haze. White head that is a little smaller than expected. The aroma is muted, but has the usual wheat twang. The taste is much better than the aroma...meaty citrus, flowers, and yeast. It's both tart, sweet, and fruity. Refreshing. Medium in body. Crisp, clean finish. Good overall summertime brew.

12oz bottle - I love, love, love (did I say love?) buying beer at the grocery store!

This beer pours a mostly clear, medium golden yellow colour, with one finger of fine foamy off-white head, which leaves some broad wave-crest lace profiles around the glass as it hies it outta there.

It smells of grainy, almost spicy, wheat grain, with some limoncello-like citrus notes, and a raw leafiness. The taste is bitter, husky wheat stalks, some weird lemon/honey sweetness, and a subtle peach/apricot fruitiness.

The bubbles are really hitting that snooze alarm for all it's worth, the body a healthy medium weight, and decidedly smooth, with a surprisingly rich feel to it all. It finishes quite wheaty, with a semi-sweet bearing, the lemon lingering in pie format.

Not a bad wheat ale, the bi-coastal nature a decent idea. Another good'n for sipping away lazily after too much time in the Pacific sun. Woe is me.

This wheat beer pours a slightly hazy medium orange gold color from a 12oz bottle. No noticeable sediment. Small, quickly diminishing, white foamy head, without much lacing. Odd for a wheat beer, it seems. The aroma is flour, cereal, and lemon drop. Medium bodied. The malts are cereal and wheaty. Herbal hops. Not that much like claimed hefeweisen as claimed. Little banana and clove. Not as smooth either. More tart and sour. Finish is crisp and clean. An interesting wheat beer. Not my favorite BBC offering, but solid.

Best before June 2012:

Into a pint glass:

A: slightly hazy copper/yellow body that has a small white head that appears for just a minute and slowly dies to a carbonated looking layer coating the top of the beer. The lacing is spotty and leaves some rings. There isn't any carbonation seen rising.

S: some citrus and some bread. I definitely smell the yeast, in fact, the yeast almost comes out overpowering.

T: does not seem to be balanced as the yeast comes out overpowering again. The wheat tries to come out and play but pretty much stays in the background. A certain blandness comes out in the taste that makes me wanna question what was Boston Beer Company thinking.

M: watery and the carbonation stays where it should - basically balanced, sessionable.

O: decent for the style, but I couldn't get into this one

A: Pours a slightly cloudy straw yellow color with a fingers worth of head that fades to a thin cap within a minute

S: A huge lemony scent dominates, with a touch of wheat and coriander in the background

T: Follows the nose, with a blast of lemon to start, followed by wheat and coriander. Finishes fairly clean

M: Light-medium bodied with moderate carbonation

O: Dominated by lemon, this almost tastes like a radler instead of a wheat beer. The wheat and coriander make their way into the taste, but are almost completely shut out of the nose. Make this a little more balanced, and this could be better than just average

Pours a bright yellow with a thin, dense, white head that has good retention. The nose has an aroma of lemon, straw, and sour apples. The flavor is identical; faint straw and lemon followed by a mouth puckering, tart, sour apple. The mouthfeel is light, smooth, and crisp.

This was bad. It had such a foul, sour, tart flavor that was completely unwelcome. I will never get this again.

Pours out to a slightly hazy copper-ish yellow with just about no head at all.

Smell is of citrus and lightly of bread. Quite nice but faint.

The taste is clean, with the wheat characteristic shining through. Finishes fairly clean with a bit of grittiness on the tongue.

Mouthfeel is watery with just about no carbonation.

This is a very drinkable beer with a decent flavor, but it looks rather bland.

Poured from bottle into pint glass

A- Cloudy dark yellow in color with small fizzy head with constant bubbles rising to the top

S- Lemon, honey and wheat

T- Much like the smell, initial wheat with honey, followed by a tart lemon finish

M- Medium in body and rather carbonated

O- Good for a wheat beer, pretty close to a hefe-minus the banana notes.

Ap: Hazy and Orange-yellow golden color. Very cloudy with a nice white foamy 1/2" inch. Leaves behind a tiny bit of lacing. Very sexy looking.

Ar: Mild honey and citrus aroma. Very mild citrus smell with a sweet note. Mild but enticing.

Ta: Very bitter yet sweet flavor. I detect honey but not such a strong citrus flavoring. The lemon is almost non-existent. It resonates like a pale ale with honey and apricot flavors. Very grassy bitters. A clean, balanced flavor. Unoffensive.

Mf: The carbonation isn't over bearing and the beer remains rich and fulfilling. Each sip requires a moment to savor. This is a fun beer to sip and enjoy.

Ov: I was pleasantly surprised with this beer. The citrus notes are mild and the wheat adds just a mild layer of complexity. I find this more engaging than a Blue Moon. It doesn't have any icky syrup-like texture. Very smooth and refreshing with a mild honey-like character. Would drink again. Cheers!

A-Clear yellow with a two finger head, the best part of this beer.

S-Some wheat and a slightly artificial lemon (pledge like)

T-Artificial lemon pledge, medicinal and almost like a formadahyde (at least what I'd guess it'd taste like based on the smell), no wheat or bitterness what so ever. Almost tart/sour as well.

M-Light in body, a little thin and not much carbonation.

O-Another poor fruit beer from SA. So far only their blackberry is decent. Maybe they should stop putting fruit in beer.

Appearance: Hazy, golden color with a half-finger head that quickly recedes leaving behind minimal lacing. Not off to a good start...

Smell: Better than the appearance but not amazing. Definitely gives off the wheat aroma with banana in the background.

Taste: It's good. Nice, smooth flavor of wheat malt with banana, lemon, and general fruitiness. Very mild bitterness. Pretty enjoyable.

Mouthfeel: Not quite as much carbonation as I would expect but not terrible. The body is good, not too thin or too thick.

Overall: This beer turned out better than expected from my initial judgement on its appearance. Not necessarily seeking this out in the future but I wouldn't mind drinking another.

Pours a hazy golden from the bottle with a small white head. Aroma is hay, wheat, some honey, and very very mild citrus, a bit of yeast. The flavor follows suit with plenty of hay and yeast, but only a brief influence from the citrus. A bit light on the palate in a watered down way, rather than a light carbonated way. This comes off as a little stale in the finish as many wheat beers do. Overall, I'd drink it again if around but would not buy it off a shelf with all the other options.

A: Pours Yellow, hazy, exactly what I wanted it to look like.

S: Not much smell to be had. I got a small whiff of the lemon but subsequent sniffs came up dry.

T: A little sour, no bitterness. As it warmed up the wheat came forward. The lemon was pleasant and not fakey like I believed it would be.

M: Felt lots of carbonation on my back teeth. Very thin.

O: This would be very good on a hot day, but I could only drink one and it isn't something I would really reach for over other beers. Pleasant enough but nothing special.

Poured a one inch custard head which faded after a minute. The body is a hazy raw sienna yellow color. Smell is surprisingly rich with malt for the style, and I don't get any of the citrus. But then the taste reverses with lemon up front and just a mild aftertaste of malt. It's mildly sweet and has a slight acidic zing. Quite frankly it was better than I was expecting.
