A: slightly hazy, big fat carbonation bubbles rise to a fluffy white top hat. expecting a little more haze for a wheat.

S: a little bit of smoke. dried oregano. real mild fruit salad.

T: herbal, italian seasoning mix. woody oak. slight fruitiness, dried bananas.

M: wish the carbonation was a little harder. real light body.

D: super light, but the body has a reasonable amount of complexity. not the best beer for the season, but a tasty example.

From notes 12/27/11: Pours an opaque pale gold with 3+ fingers of fluffy, white, short-lived head leaving a thin lace behind as it recedes. Aroma is lemon, a lot of lemon, wheat and a coriander hint. Taste if anything is more high octane lemon than the nose. Wheat and grass are present. Very yeasty. Mouthfeel is light-medium bodied with high carbonation, smooth, a little creamy and dry. The lemon is off-putting.

Poured into a becher pint glass.
The appearance was a murky burnt dark yellow to orange color with a quickly (like a bat outa hell) dissipating fizzy little white head. Lace - not there. No matter how many times I poured this, it was never there.
The aroma had some sharp lemon pulp and rind with some black pepper that was pretty bold and encased a gentle sweet wheat pulling in some grassiness at the very end.
The flavor sharply took the bitterness of the grassiness to play pretty harsh with the black pepper and lemon rind. Aftertaste was all about the lemon rind and black pepper. The wheat seemed to have taken a hike and was non-existent.
The mouthfeel was between light and medium bodied with not much sessionability about it. Black pepper harshness seemed to get a tad overbearing the more I tried to take this down. Carbonation did feel fine. ABV felt on par.
Overall, not sure what kind of experiment Sam Adams was trying to do with this one but at least Beer Advocate has this down right for the style. If this is a hefeweizen, then I am Mickey Mouse.

Actually I lied, last brew wasn't the final. Forgot about this one. Same place, possibly a bit old, single bottle for $1.39. Let's get to it.

Soapy murked yellow almost like pledge dish soap with a one finger head. Looks remind me of the Sam Adams Summer ale I had about five years ago.

Smell surprisingly follows the looks. Light wheats with a touch of lemon that goes a bit dish soap like as you really sit and smell it.

Taste is better though. The lemon amps up and stays somewhat true to the fruit and the wheats become nice and prominent but the flavor still isn't bulky nor particularly impressive.

Feel is bubbly with with a certain chalkyness. Swallows easy and a tad bitter.

Overall this was okay for the money I paid for the single but not something I'd purchase a sixer of. Over never actually seen this beer out of these guys until now. I suppose it would make a great bridge for somebody new to the craft world. Wheat ales aren't my favorite style, but this one is underwhelming even for the style.

You get some haze throughout this yellow pour with over 1/2" white head. Pulls the citrus lemon and grapefruit together in the aroma, smells like summertime.

Taste was all the hallmarks: wheat, lemon, grain, tartness. Bitterness isn't really hop derived. American yeast is clean. No off flavors. Easy time pawning these off on lighter beer types.
