Pours a deep burgundy color with a slight haze to it. It has a foamy/fizzy pink head that settles to a thin coating and leaves plenty of foam on the glass.

Has a very tart cherry aroma, like cherries from a can used to make a pie. There is some oak notes mixed with some bready malt and a subtle malt sweetness in the background. I also get some earthy hop notes mixed in there.

It has a very tart/sour cherry flavor that goes to dry bready malt flavor. There are also a little spiciness and a little oak character to it. Some sweet cherries on the finish. The sourness is the most prominent when you first start drinking it. Once my palate became acclimated to the intensity, the sourness went away to a light fruity tartness with a nice sweet malty flavor and the cherry sweetness became more obvious.

It's light to medium body with a lot of fizzy carbonation. It leaves a sticky coating and is dry on the finish.

At first I was having a hard time with this beer, but after the first glass and I got used to the flavor, it really became enjoyable. Give this one a little time.

Special 500ml bottle served in a Belgian snifter.

A: Brownish black cherry juice. Foggy.

Feel: near medium body.

Aroma: Fairly strong cherry character. A bit more oak than I prefer.

Flavor: excellent sweet/tart balance ness from the cherries is balanced by a rich, malty character with toasted oak notes added from the barrel aging.

Bomber > Pint Glass

A - Pours out a dark cherry red with two fingers of white fizzy head, no lacing.
S - Lots of dark cherries, some vanilla, big oak presence, some sweet toasted caramel and toffee notes.
T - Primarily tart black cherry, a little woody oak flavor in the end, but its dominated by tart cherry.
M - Puckering sour, not really sweet though.
O - Surprised at this, but just at this with some turkey dinner, and it complimented it really well.

Cheers to Goblinmunkey7 for sharing this - 2009 vintage

Appearance: Dark, dark red with some purple and some brown - even after about 4 years, this pours with a lot of carbonation - above average, light tan head, slowly fades to an above-average sized, solid, creamy head

Smell: Cooked malts and a lot of fruit - cooked, caramelized, lightly oxidized malts - some syrupy caramel and sugar - a lot of cherry flavor, with flesh and some skin - some low tartness

Taste: More or less follows the aroma, with a lot of cherry and caramel - cooked, caramelized grains, straight-up caramel syrup, and some pale malts - loads of cherry, including cherry flesh and cherry skins - some phenolic/medicinal characteristics that kind of make this seem like cherry cough syrup - some oxidation, probably from the age, and a lot of earthiness - some tart, but definitely not sour in any way - nice amount of fruity sweetness

Mouthfeel: Medium body, nice carbonation, smooth, nicely drinkable

Overall: Barrel room space is justified

This was a stand-out among the Barrel Room Collection back when these first came out, and it's still good, about four years later. It's not the most complex, and it's definitely lacking sour/funky notes that one would expect in a kriek, but it's still good, especially for a Samuel Adams beer.

2009 vintage. Split with angrybabboon.

Appearance: Hazed ruddy brick red. Small super pale pink bead. Tight bubbly cap drops to a few wisps and a tiny collar. Moderate to high carbonation especially with the age.

Smell: Oak and cherries. Tons of damp wood with some floral edges. Very damp with some vinegar. Layered funk with some herbal edges. Cherry flesh with some tart cherry skin. Acetic with a powdery yeast. Musty and damp.

Taste: Powdered yeast. Earthy and damp. Hay and must basement. Some floral edges. Tart cherry skin and flesh. Mildly acetic with a solid oak presence. Malts push caramel and and some biscuit. Incredibly fruity. Mega yeasty and earthy. So much damp. Nice balance of tart and sweet with more oak as it warms.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with a moderate carbonation. Crisp and ever so slightly dry on the finish. Wet up front.

Overall: Oh snap, it's tasty.

Some age made this nicely complex. Not the most depth, but the funk and cherry work well with the mildly acetic thing.
