Poured into my brand new Kasteel goblet.

5.0 A: Nearly clear light orange color. Two fingers of frothy/creamy hybrid white head. Great retention and lots of lacing.

4.5 S: Earthy and spicy, this is a great smelling brew. The most prominent aroma is probably yeastiness with peppery spiciness and a touch of clove as well. Hops add a subtle dirty earthiness. Peachy fruitiness is also there, but not so much tropical fruit as suggested by the label. Other than the aromas mentioned, this beer is very clean. Oak is much lighter than I would have expected.

4.5 T: Lots and lots of pepper spiciness with some clove in there too. Some fruitiness remains, but much drier than the nose would suggest. Instead, there's a lot more earthiness with some hay and barnyard funkiness. Don't get me wrong, this is a tripel, but it does have some saison-like characteristics. Oak comes through more in the taste. Pretty damn good.

4.0 M: Light body. Lots, if not too much, spritzy carbonation. Good creaminess. Goes down easy for the amount of carbonation.

4.5 D: This is easily my favorite SA brew. Until now, just about everything has left me unimpressed. Everytime I find my self pulling a cork from a bottle of beer, I wonder if the beer inside is worthy of such a fancy presentation. This one is.

Appearance: A deep amber body full of carbonation. It had a nice head that lasted a good while.

Smell: I thought it smelled of oak and carbonation.

Taste: I enjoyed this bear, not as thick as I usually enjoy but very drinkable.

Mouthfeel: Not so thick but very smooth and delicious.

Overall: I enjoyed this very much and could see this being one of my go to beers and with a 10%ABV its an ass kicker.

750mL bottle into a tulip.

A: Deep, hazy amber. Head builds fast in a creamy, frothy affair, slightly off-white, hints of orange or copper. Receded to a well retained layer on the beer surface, with extensive lacing not he glass.

S: Smells like a triple. The yeast gives the beer a distinct spiciness- especially cardamom and nutmeg, some pepper. Hints of citrus, orange maybe. There is an oakiness to the aroma as well.

T: Spices lead this beer onto the palate. So delightful. Citrus and oak, too. Overall is is woven with sweetness, and some booziness.

M: Medium to full bodied, the carbonation is just right to lighten the beer on the palate, but not so much that it interferes with tasting. The palate warms from the alcohol, which is a serious 10% abv.

O: This is a tripel, but definitely not like a typical Belgian tripel. The aromas and flavors of a typical Belgian are all present, but then the oak character from being barrel aged kicks this into a different level, in a good way.
