Awesome! First one to review this beer although I don't many people will post reviews. According to the tour guide at Sam Adams Brewery, this beer was brewed once as a test batch.
From what I remember of the brew: Contains 5% wheat the rest being 2-row, dry-hopped with herbsrucker (sp...), and fermented with a mix of ale and lager yeast. IBUs: 35. ABV is not known.
Poured into a 7oz tasting glass at the brewery. Pours a slightly hazy and golden in color. Excellent head retention and the lacing never leaves the glass - great looking beer.
Smell: Fruity hops in the nose, but not very powerful. Spicy aroma with some caramel malts following through.
Taste: Clean and smooth bitterness. A bit oily and resiny hop profile that melds smoothly with the malt profile. Classic 2-row crisp taste. This beer reminds me a lot of Boston lager, but with a smoother bittering and lighter caramel notes. Mouthfeel is middle of the road and carbonation is spot on.
Overall: The drinkability is great on this one and is quite the session ale/lager. This beer is available only at the tasting room in Boston and unless mass-produced will be hard to get.
Glad I got to try it!
Serving type: on-tap
