12oz bottle from seasonal 12-pack with brewery-fresh date of 08/10.
We all know Sam Adams as one of the first mass marketed "micro breweries", and they will always hold a special place in most beer lovers hearts as their Boston Lager was one of the first widely available tasty brews.
That being said, there has not been much from Mr Koch and Co. that has been worth sampling lately. So when Latitude 48 came out, with its promise of a "blend of hops from top German, English, and American growing regions all located close to the 48th latitude within the "hop belt" of the Northern Hemisphere", their was a hint of hope. After all, SA advertises this as their IPA.
The beer was poured into a Sam Adams glass, cream-colored head with a coppery hue. Biscuit malt aroma covered any hop presence which was not a good sign.
Mild hops give way to strong malt and earthy tones with a nice medium body. Tough when the body of the beer gets more play than the hops.
I can drink this beer, but why. Either you are looking for a true IPA, or like your hops to be balanced with an abundance of malt, in which case you could have a nice imperial amber.
Time to stop wasting cash on Sam Adams.

12 oz bottle poured into a lager glass.
A - Deep clear amber. Two inch head with excellent retention. Nice lacing.
S - Citrus, pine, and sweet malt.
T - Citrus, honey malt,and pine.
M - Medium
O - My favorite from the Hopology Collection. A perfect balance of sweetness and hops without the nasty bitterness. I highly recommend this brew.
