I get why many are disappointed with this, and I think it's for the same reasons why I like it. Its ABV is modest for the style, and the malt, while not particularly flavorful, provides some level of balance. I know the "b word" may not belong in a discussion on IPAs, but personally, I think balance is a good idea. Anyway, I'll admit I'm not an IPA connoisseur, but I can't help but think this is well executed, even if its bitterness is placed into moderation. The flavors work, and if nothing else, it's a good introduction for a casual beer drinker into the style. Fresh citrus, grapefruit, and pine come from the hops in the smell and taste, and again, while the malt doesn't add much in terms of flavor, it does seem to give it that [insert "b word"]. Mouthfeel is great, with medium/high thickness and carbonation that is fairly low (it could be increased a bit I feel). Anyway, aside from the Boston Lager, this is without question in my opinion the best feature of the season's "Harvest Collection" 12-pack. Overall, this is an approachable IPA, one that may not be bold, extreme, or extravagant, but one that simply delivers great taste, a great mouthfeel, and clearly great quality ingredients.

12 oz bottle poured into a lager glass.
A - Deep clear amber. Two inch head with excellent retention. Nice lacing.
S - Citrus, pine, and sweet malt.
T - Citrus, honey malt,and pine.
M - Medium
O - My favorite from the Hopology Collection. A perfect balance of sweetness and hops without the nasty bitterness. I highly recommend this brew.
