From the Latitude 48 deconstructed pack, I figured I would get to know the original before going to the others. Also, it should be very educational on hops.

Appearance: A light golden brown, very clear, lots of white head that takes its time to dissipate, leaving generous lacing

Smell: Pine, resin, floral, citrus, grapefruit, and a little earthy hops. It takes a little time to pick out the different hop smells just due to how much there is, and how much variety there is.

Taste: Hop bitterness up front, with some balancing malt in there. Not as balanced as I expected from Sam Adams, but thats not a bad thing. The pine and resin are the most prominent hop flavors, with earthy being the next up. The grapefruit and other citrus and the floral are in there as well but is hiding a little. The grapefruit comes out more as it warms. Theres also some pepper in there.

Mouthfeel: Medium body, high crisp carbonation, semi-dry finish

Overall: A solid IPA. Definitely better than a lot out there, but there are also plenty better than this. Definitely a notch above the average Boston Beer Company brew. Glad to see them still trying to push the envelope.

12 oz bottle poured into a lager glass.

A - Deep clear amber. Two inch head with excellent retention. Nice lacing.

S - Citrus, pine, and sweet malt.

T - Citrus, honey malt,and pine.

M - Medium

O - My favorite from the Hopology Collection. A perfect balance of sweetness and hops without the nasty bitterness. I highly recommend this brew.
