Wow this beer is dark! It mirrors a Barleywine or Dubbel. Darkest IPA I have ever seen. Extremely dense amber. Got a huge head on the pour also. At least 2 fingers. Although the color isn't a good representation of the style. Most I see are quite a bit lighter. Smell is very sweet, grassy and herbal caramel malts with a big grapefruit kick and sharp hoppiness. Outstanding for a lower abv IPA. I must say the bitterness is quite prominent. Never really expected this out of Sam Adams. Taste is also very dirty and earthy with hints of tropical fruits. They picked a great blend of hops to play with. Mouthfeel is very creamy with well balanced carbonation. This seriously has quite a flavor punch to it. I can't help but think most people will rate is lower just because it is Sam Adams. It ranks right up there with the big boys or small boys rather in my opinion. Seek this one out.
