Aroma: Light caramel malt nose, mild earthy hop notes, pretty unremarkable. Just a hint of lemon zest as it warms.
Appearance: Clear amber pour with a mousse-like white cap. Head retention is good. Appears still in the glass.
Flavor: Earthy hop bitterness up front, bread crust and light orange note in the middle, and a little bit of a peppery aftertaste. Balance is nearly even with the earthy bitterness winning the day. Finish is clean and dry. No real aftertaste to speak of.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with medium carbonation. No astringency or creaminess.
Overall impression: Meh. I'm not sure I'd even give this to a noob b/c I don't think it does anything to showcase the beauty of what a good American IPA can be. Not really sure the brewer's intent on this one. Kind of tastes like an Americanized Special Bitter. Won't try again.
