A: Pours a goldenrod yellow color with a frothy white head that falls relatively quickly. Some splashes of lace on the glass, with a solid top of bubbly froth. Duvel tulip produces a nice stream of carbonation from the bottom for a while.
S: Light and wispy, replete with phenolic, lemony, and spiced aromas. Lemon and pepper are both there, but not too far overdone at all. With warming some nice bready notes and more residual sweetness emerge.
T&M: Rush of sweet peppery flavor up front, with a finish that dries out just a touch. A very tasty saison, indeed! Lemon and apple with a band-aid-like phenol flavor and white pepper all feature prominently on a massive initial rush of flavor. Then things mellow out with a dry, straw-like/grassy flavor that yields to more spice and crisp bitterness on the finish. The yeast profile lacks the complexity of true exemplars of the style, but it's still quite enjoyable. Body is light to medium with an aggressive, yet not super-fizzy carbonation level.
D: Lowish alcohol content and great flavor make this great for gulping. Too bad there are only two of them per 6-pack!!

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a half-pint chalice.
A: Slightly hazy, medium golden color with less than one finger of diminishing white foam head. Light lacing remains on the glass.
S: A mixture of esters, crisp phenolics, and Belgian aromatic malt.
T: Begins dry, with strong esters and bready malt. Acidity is restrained into the middle where malt becomes more crisp and crackery. Herbaceous hops emerge in the finish with a thread of savory cooking spices--notably cumin.
M: Thin to medium viscosity, slightly syrupy on the palate, with low carbonation.
D/O: A fairly straight-forward saison, whose dry flavor is undermined somewhat by the syrupy texture. Advertised flavors are well-integrated, practically hidden, although other herbal and metabolite flavors fall within appropriate bounds.
