My first of this type so I'm not sure what it's supposed to look like. Pours a clear, coppery orange, with a few bubbles rising from the bottom. The head is enormous, full of different sized white bubbles. It actually looks like layers of different sizes.
The smell is bready, yeasty with some fruit added, apple or pear maybe.
It's got a strong flavor of whatever it is. The peppery spice is prominent. Alcohol is very noticeable as well.
Mouthfeel is a bit weird, but reasonably complex. Lots of layers to it. It's sweet and spicy, yet finishes both sticky and dry. Like I said, it's weird. Packs a punch, I can feel each sip all the way to my stomach.
Not sure what I was expecting. Not as bad as I expected based on other reviews, but not worth what I paid for it. Basically, just one more beer knocked off my wish list.

I am surprised that other reviewers didn't enjoy this beer as much as I did. This is the first Bière de Champagne that I can remember drinking and I personally really enjoyed the style. It is very sweet, but I thought the sweetness was well complemented and balanced by the champagne-type mouthfeel, which made this go down easy for me (even with the high alcohol) and made the beer stand out from others. I'm not even a huge fan of champagne, but this beer seemed to me to combine the best of both champagne (delicate mouthfeel, gentle sweetness) and beer (stabilizing malt base). Would love to drink more of this, or try more beers in this style.
