Poured a 12 ounce bottle into a Samuel Adams pint glass.
Looks just like a kolsch should, with a decent amount of head that sticks around, and minimal lacing.
The first thing that hits you with this brew both on the palate and on the nose is the fairly assertive floral notes. They are by no means overpowering, and actually intermingle well with some sweet, bread malt flavors and herbal notes from the hops. Per the style, it almost tastes like a good pale lager, with just a touch of pear like fruit ester from the ale yeast. Finish is semi-crisp, with a slight bite from the hops and lemon and herbal notes floating around.
Overall, this is a pretty damn good kolsch. The BBC did a good job at replicating the style, and best of all, it's great to taste one fresh rather than getting burned by a stale import, as Kolsch is relatively low ABV beer with low bitterness, so it does not travel well. A great, easy drinking, summer time brew. Wish it were available in six-packs. Oh, and most importantly, cheers to my 200th BA review!
