I don't usually drink Samuel Adam's beers but I recently tried their Kolsch and was impressed. The style is creeping up to be one of my favorites as far as lighter beers are concerned. So clean, so refreshing, and with enough flavor to satisfy.
She poured a clear yellow-gold color with a bubbly-foamy white head that keeps its shape fairly well. Some lacing is left when drinking.
The smell was pretty grainy with a strong presence of straw. It's a bit sulfury but not very strong and hops add some spicy and floral notes.
I liked the taste a lot. It was light yet like the smell it was grainy from pale malt. There's a tap bit of citrus in there like lemon. Hops are there but not too much and lead to a dry finish. Not a lot of flavor but just what I need on a 100+ degree Texas summer day.
Mouthfeel is light, clean, crisp, and entirely refreshing.
One of the more impressive specialty beers from Samuel Adams I've had. The Kolsch style is a hard one to find so this might be a beer I look for in the future.
