The saison is my favorite Belgian style, so I'm approaching this one with hesitation. First Belgian style beer I have had from Samuel Adams.
A - Pours a very clear white gold with a two finger foamy white head. Decent retention on the head but minimal lacing.
S - Wheat, lemon zest, and a touch of Belgian yeast in the aroma. Estery and slightly floral.
T - Initially sweet and floral with hints of candied sugar and Belgian yeast. Toasted malt in the finish with a slightly earthy hop flavor. Tastes like a watered down, less complex saison and is somewhat disappointing.
M - Thin and lightly carbonated. Watery.
O - Overall, I would say that some of the essential saison flavors are present, however it is far too toned down for my taste. Most other saison ales I have had have been between 6.5-7% abv, and this one is only 4.35%. Could have been much better if everything here was kicked up a notch.
