Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a large wine glass. This offering pours a dark brown with bright and clear ruby highlights and offers a half inch of tan foam. Average retention and lace follow.
Aroma is right there as expected with chocolate and cherry notes abounding. Surely not the complex notes of a malt inspired dubbel but in line again with expectations of some infused fruit. No real malt depth beyond the obvious and warming makes it smell quite like a cherry liqueur filled holiday chocolate. Gets a bit overwhelming actually though may pair well with a similar desert.
Taste is a subdued version of the aroma with a touch of caramel and lightly roasted chocolate emerging with warming which actually helps to balance the dessert like sweetness otherwise present. Decent feel, lightly bready in texture. An interesting take on the style and rather pleasant, though I wouldn't want more than one in a sitting given its profile and sweetness coupled with a lack of malt depth/complexity.

12oz. bottle poured into a snifter.
(A)- Pours a pitch black color. Produced some tan froth and bubbles.
(S)- A wonderful aroma of chocolate covered cherries with just a hint of raisins. Dessert in a glass.
(T)- A slight chalkiness meets a ton of chocolate covered cherries. Ever so slight medicinal(cough syrup) quality to the fruit, but subtle.
(M)- A good carbonation level. I like the balance aside from the chalky medicinal parts. It gets to be rather sweet as it warms.
(O)- The smell is glorious. Too bad the rest of the beer is not up to par.
