A - Vigorous pour into a pub glass. Thick dark body and super creamy off-white head. Lots of lacing. Nearly opaque! Looks good so far.
S - The first and foremost thing I smell is a chocolate covered cherry candy, like the ones they sell around christmas. It's almost identical actually. Sweet, tart cherry and smooth milk chocolate mingle in the air. Can't really smell much else, but I hope it tastes as good as it smells.
T - Big milk chocolate sweetness on the way in, a little maraschino cherry tartness on the way down, but unfortunately not very much in between. That being said, what I can taste is great. The flavor is rich and wholesome, very tasty. I can pick up on a little dark coffee, some cola sugariness, a little dried fruit, and even a hint of bran or dark bread. Good flavor, but I want more body.
M - Very thick and sticky, almost chewy, a perfect example of how a bock should feel, it's not runny or greasy or either, very full feeling.
O - Not a bad beer at all, good bock characteristics, and great flavor, but there's still some things missing here and there. The taste is great, but its lacking something, some more personality maybe. That being said, it's a fine after dinner beverage, and the cherry chocolate thing it's got going on is pretty solid. Another satisfactory showing from Sam Adams.

12oz. bottle poured into a snifter.
(A)- Pours a pitch black color. Produced some tan froth and bubbles.
(S)- A wonderful aroma of chocolate covered cherries with just a hint of raisins. Dessert in a glass.
(T)- A slight chalkiness meets a ton of chocolate covered cherries. Ever so slight medicinal(cough syrup) quality to the fruit, but subtle.
(M)- A good carbonation level. I like the balance aside from the chalky medicinal parts. It gets to be rather sweet as it warms.
(O)- The smell is glorious. Too bad the rest of the beer is not up to par.
