I thought this was a slightly above average IPA, definitely nothing special. Tried it as part of the Latitude 48 "Deconstructed" pack like I assume everyone else did. Kind of a cool idea from Boston Beer. Anyway, this was probably the one I liked the least out of the bunch. It was kind of weak and herbal, just not really what I'm looking for in an IPA.

Not a real assertive hop presence to this on the aroma or the taste but enough to get a feel for this hop in this beer...kind of an oily, herbal impression....I like the flavor....definitely Hallertau which I love in Pilsners. It certainly works fine here as well as a single hop in this IPA but the overall drinkability is more like an APA than an IPA.

Overall this hop seems better in a beer with a cleaner malt profile like a pilsner but I think this is decent enough as a pale ale. Scores though reflect it as an IPA.

Poured into pint glass. whiskey colored beer. Pretty mild for an IPA. Not much bitternes or citrisy but a very drinkable beer. one could drink this beer over and over again on a hot day and quench your thirsty. A bit of a thick head but thats okay by me

Since I have already rated and reviewed Latitude 48, I am going to keep my review on this “deconstructed” version focused upon the hop character.

The brewer describes Hallertau Mittelfrueh hops as having a "soft bitterness along with delicate citrus and resinous pine notes."

This version is certainly subtle - too subtle in the nose and flavor profile. The resin is mild. The body appears to be heartier than Latitude 48. Perhaps the hop character of this one accentuates the malt profile and makes the beer appear to be heartier than the parent beer.

12 ounce bottle into signature pint glass, best before 10/2014. Pours crystal clear orange amber color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of lemon zest, orange peel, herbal, floral, grass, light pepper/pine, caramel, bread, and herbal/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/earthy hops and moderate malt sweetness; with solid strength. Taste of lemon zest, orange peel, herbal, floral, grass, light pepper/pine, caramel, bread, and herbal/grassy earthiness. Fair amount of floral/pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon zest, orange peel, herbal, floral, grass, light pepper/pine, caramel, bread, and herbal earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice flavor balance and complexity of citrus/earthy hops and moderate malt sweetness; with a good malt/bitterness balance and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, fairly crisp, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice and pleasant IPA. Good balance and complexity of citrus/earthy hops and moderate malt sweetness; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.
