A 12 oz bottle, one-sixth of a mixed six pack from Wegmans Mechanicsburg.
A: The IPA is dark, a golden brown amber color. Translucent is the term of the day, clear and accentuative of the bubble stream (is accentuative a word? it is now). A finger of white head is leaving a few bands of lace behind.
S: The nose earthy, grassy with herbal aromas. The aroma, frankly, isn't much to get excited about, mostly caramel malts.
T: The caramel stands out, a bready sweet base that holds the hops in check. The hops that are present have a soft herbal flavor, peppery even. The hops struggle to get past the malts. As a side note, those malts have a thickness that could easily pass muster in an amber or Scottish ale. Doesn't work well in an IPA though.
M: The mouthfeel is malt-centric, losing the individuality of the EKG hops. The caramel sweetness in the finish is a nice feature.

[Original rating 2011-06-10] My first taste of the deconstructed Latitude 48s. Pours orange/copper with a thin tan head that disappeared right away. Not much aroma, but a bit earthy with a hint of stone fruit. Taste is malty with a nice bitter finish. Medium body, very little carbonation. Seems more like an APA than an IPA but over all not too bad.

Pretty amber color, full inch of head, impressive lace. Aroma was lacking in the hop department, just got a dirty earthy malt unwashed vibe from it.
Was the sweetest of the variety pack, hops in the background at best. A nice degree of malt sweetness doesn't cut it in today's ipa market though.
I guess if you like your ipas balanced and with plenty of malt sweetness, you will enjoy this. No off flavors or anything. Just more of an English ipa than American.

11/26....pours medium dark amber with white foam. Settles out completely. Nose is earthy, and dirt like. Heartier taste. Lighter malt, more earth. A little rough around the edges.

Poured into a pint glass. Pours orange amber with a decent white head. Smells of floral and slight citrus notes. Tastes of earthy hops with slight citrus, good malty backbone. Beer is light bodied, heavily carbonated. Overall an above average beer.

"This single hop IPA is brewed using only East Kent Goldings. These classic English hops create a mellow bitterness with earthy, floral, and apricot notes that are balanced by a subtle malt sweetness." Brewed in the style of an American IPA. Released as part of the Latitude 40 Deconstructed IPA series, available in 12 oz. bottles.
Poured from a 12 oz. bottle to a Samuel Adams Sensory pint glass. Served above 62 degrees Fahrenheit.
(Appearance) Pours a biscuity white head of a frothy foam consistency over a moderately pulpy bronze amber body with moderate carbonation. Retention is good and lacing is light and spotty. 4
(Smell) The East Kent Goldings hop imbues earthy, fruity and mild citrus aromas atop a bread malt blend of English malts and light caramel grains. The perceived bitterness is mild to medium and potency is medium. 3.5
(Taste) Forward delicate fruit notes of peach and apricot, light herbal and earthy hop flavors. Malt character is mild caramel and toffee malt which finishes light on malt sweetness with an herbal, tealike thinness. 3.25
(Mouthfeel) Texture is slick, lightly oily and mildly dry. Carbonation is low with a light frothiness and low crispness. Body is shy of medium and medium overall. Balance is slightly more bitter over sweet. Alcohol presence is low and there are no off characters. 3.75
(Overall) The English style hops are frequently overlooked as a common American IPA hop choice due to their lightness and focus on fruity, herbal and earthy flavors over the growing popularity for bolder, sharper flavors of citrus, grapefruit and pine. Thus, the East Kent Goldings choice is a somewhat rarer glimpse into a more traditional English-based IPA, with an English malt base to pair. While it isn't going for any wow factor, I recommend this beer and the series in general to anybody looking to broaden their palate a wide array of hop notes. This beer may not be nearly the most interesting in the series, but it was quite drinkable and very enjoyable. 3.5

A: This poured a clear dark gold with moderate off white head.
S: It smelled like floral and earthy lemon hops, with some sweet honey and kitty litter.
T: It tasted like earthy sweet honey, with some lemon zest and floral hops and kitty litter. It had a muddled bittersweet aftertaste.
M: It was watery with moderate carbonation. Decent body.
D: This wasn't a very good IPA. The scent and taste were more earthy and sweet than hoppy, with some bad cat character thrown in also. The body was only ok, and the finish wasn't terribly clean. So it wasn't the easiest to drink. Nothing more than a bad experiment.
