12oz bottle > mini goblet
2011

Pours a clear copper with a tight oft white head that shows some staying power. Chalky sheets of lace. Carbonation appears minimal.

Nose: Piney sweet.

Medium to full mouthfeel. Malts are thin on the initial taste, giving only a vague sweetness to the brew. As the beer warms a slick caramel base emerges. Hops are thick and juicy. Lots of pine rind and citrus goodness. A slight green onion flavor lingers and leaves a bitter crud on the finish. This is definitely big on hop additions.

The first one i.ve tried out of the latitude series, impressed so far.

The first two deconstructeds I've poured tonight had no head, but this orange-amber beer develops a medium one, so marking up the appearance. Aroma is better than the hallertau--it has that pine-resin aroma we've encountered a lot in recent IPAs. Taste has plenty of bitterness, and piney hop flavor. Malt adds a sweet component that is well-balanced. Finish is dry. About equal to the main Latitude I think. Very drinkable, but doesn't stand out.

Poured from a bottle into a nonic pint.

A - Pours a crystal clear copper color with a wispy half-finger head that dissipated quickly. Hardly any lacing to speak of.

S - Healthy aroma of pine, grapefruit, and a hint of dank (pot).

T - Taste matches the nose. Pine, pink grapefruit, lemon peel, and apricot. Caramel malt base, but doesn't stand up to the aggressive hops. Finish is dry and clean with some lingering bitterness.

M - Lighter side of medium bodied, with standard SA prickly carbonation.

O - Decent, but strictly a pine/grapefruit bomb and a very "typical" IPA. Weak appearance and too thin bodied overall.

I love Simcoe hops but this one falls short for me. Not sure if it is the way the hops are used or the malt billing snuffing out this hops goodness but it is an average beer.

More of a pine aroma than anything bordering on citrus. Taste follows suit....piney...a bit of toffee like maltiness..

Medium Full bodied....oily hoppiness

Certainly not a horrible beer but i wanted more out of the Simcoe hops and they did not shine enough and did not exhibit the nice citrus flavors I prefer to glean from this hop.

Still, a decent enough IPA but nothing special....
