12 oz. bottle poured into a Sam Adams Perfect Pint Glass. Liquid is dark brown, but pretty close to black. Can't see through it but it gets a slight lighter brown around th eedges. Light Tan colored head that stickcs around for quite a bit; good lacing.
Smell is pretty good. Much like the bottle indicates, there are strong coffee aromas. Not like brewed coffee, more like the beans or grinds though.
Taste is good. Again there are strong flavors of black coffee throughout. I personally love the flavor of coffee and this hits it pretty good. It's not life changing, but certainly above average.
Mouthfeel is good. Balanced carbonation level and pretty smooth. Body is a little lighter than I expected, but it makes sense, black coffee usually isn't full bodied.
Overall this is actually a pretty tasty cofee stout. I remember the 1st time I tried it was back during the tasters choice in 08 or 09. This lost out to the Blackberry Wheat, I don't know why, I think this is a much better beer. It's an excellent addition to the Winter Classic pack in my opinion.

Sampled December 2013 from a bottle into a pint glass.
Appearance: Very dark color with a nice tan head. The head lasted a long time, and left a thin coating on the inside of the glass.
Smell: There are roasted coffee aromas, along with some strong malt aromas. The combination made for an interesting aroma. Not much of a hop smell.
Taste: Full-bodied with an interesting mix of malt, and coffee. There is a little chocolate flavor as well. As with the aroma, there is not much of a hop flavor to balance the malt.
Mouth feel: Full-bodied, but very smooth. Very creamy.
Overall: Good stout. I enjoyed the bottle that I drank, but the coffee flavor can dominate.
