Poured from bottle into Yuengling draft glass
Black body with a frothy khaki-colored two-finger head.
Nice nose on this one. Dark coffee, espresso, roasted malts, and chocolate all jockeying for position.
Taste is dark coffee, some espresso, and a roasted malt and chocolate finish. Its ok, but I guess the Founders Breakfast Stout spoiled this one somewhat for me.
Mouthfeel is a little more watered-down than I prefer, but I may be nitpicking since I like the imperials. About what I expected though for a single stout by a more mainstream brewer.
This is a good, but not great stout. If you like coffee and/or are just getting into stouts, this would be a nice introduction to the style. Sam Adams makes solid beers for the most part, and this one is no different.

Sampled December 2013 from a bottle into a pint glass.
Appearance: Very dark color with a nice tan head. The head lasted a long time, and left a thin coating on the inside of the glass.
Smell: There are roasted coffee aromas, along with some strong malt aromas. The combination made for an interesting aroma. Not much of a hop smell.
Taste: Full-bodied with an interesting mix of malt, and coffee. There is a little chocolate flavor as well. As with the aroma, there is not much of a hop flavor to balance the malt.
Mouth feel: Full-bodied, but very smooth. Very creamy.
Overall: Good stout. I enjoyed the bottle that I drank, but the coffee flavor can dominate.
