Poured from a bottled dated best by April 2012 into a pint glass:
A: Pours from the bottle with a look very akin to a cup of dark roast coffee, capping off with a semi-billowing cream colored head which slowly fades into a subtle cap of foamy goodness. Tight laces of bubbles hug the sides of the glass in neat form.
S: A bold roast of coffee dominates the nose with some earthy malts delicately propping the aroma up as a backbone. Light hints of sweet milk chocolate make a gentle wave to the nose as the stout's bold scent tapers off.
T: Great, robust notes of the roasted Sumatran coffee bean are present up front with a pleasant blend of roasty, sweet malt goodness carrying the flavor through. As the brew sits on the palate, notes of dark chocolate come to life and finish the taste profile with a gentle bittersweet touch.
M: Full-bodied and smooth with a rather attractive mouthfeel. Has a very similar mouthfeel to a cup of coffee which was brewed as thick of mud with just a touch of carbonation. The aftertaste is noticeably pleasant and much less aggressive than some other coffee stouts.
O: Definitely a winner in the line up of Samuel Adams' seasonal 12 pack. I thought that this was a remarkably well blended coffee stout that plain and simple got it right, not frills attached. I would buy a sixer of this were it available

Sampled December 2013 from a bottle into a pint glass.
Appearance: Very dark color with a nice tan head. The head lasted a long time, and left a thin coating on the inside of the glass.
Smell: There are roasted coffee aromas, along with some strong malt aromas. The combination made for an interesting aroma. Not much of a hop smell.
Taste: Full-bodied with an interesting mix of malt, and coffee. There is a little chocolate flavor as well. As with the aroma, there is not much of a hop flavor to balance the malt.
Mouth feel: Full-bodied, but very smooth. Very creamy.
Overall: Good stout. I enjoyed the bottle that I drank, but the coffee flavor can dominate.
