Standard black pour, almost a full inch of tan head on the top with tiny bubbles, solid retention, lace was spotty. Aroma delivered on the diner house coffee, straight forward and nothing too exotic.
Taste delivered a roasty, dry coffee presence, smooth without the addition of cream or sugar. Bare bones and for the better because of it. Roasted chocolate malt, coffee and a sessionable strength make for an enjoyable 12oz of beer, one of the best SA offerings I've come across in 20 years.

Appearance: Pitch black body, crowned by a robust and resilient, very fine-beaded tan head, which, even after several minutes, has scarcely faded. Thick, sticky and coarse lacing adorns the glass walls.
Aroma: Superb aroma of dark malt and roasted coffee. There are also notes of espresso, bitter coca, and vanilla.
Taste: Opens with very well-balanced notes of dark malt, coffee, and sweet chocolate. As the taste progresses, subtle notes of vanilla and wood appear as well. Roasted nuts are present late in the taste, and there is a bit of burnt caramel. Finishes with a lingering and mellow coffee note.
Mouth feel: Full and rich, with a creamy note.
Drinkability/notes: Quite wonderful, the blend of the coffee and dark malt is quite harmonious and pleasing. This would be a fine dessert beer.
Presentation: Packaged in a custom twelve-ounce brown glass long-neck bottle, served in a New Belgium Brewing chalice.
