I love when Stouts have the really dark tan head with the very thick mixture of tan and black syrup forming within the dense head. I get similar smells to their Cream Stout and Black Lager with the dark roasted malts and lactic smell but with a really nice bitter coffee and some dark fruit smells. It starts off with a nice bite I'm guessing from the coffee and hops and then I get the sweet stout caramel dark chocolate malts mixed with the bitter top quality sumatran coffee. It then ends with a bit of bitterness from the hops and coffee.
This is an excellent beer. Its like if they added coffee to their already delicious cream stout. Samuel Adams is expert at mixing their malts for a delicious sweet full bodied beer. Their stouts and darker beers are always excellent as well. This one being no exception. This is actually my first coffee beer and while I know theres probably stronger tasting ones out there this one is really a perfect combination of coffee and beer. Not too much coffee where its weird to drink but not too little where you dont taste it. Excellent offering from Samuel Adams.

Sampled December 2013 from a bottle into a pint glass.
Appearance: Very dark color with a nice tan head. The head lasted a long time, and left a thin coating on the inside of the glass.
Smell: There are roasted coffee aromas, along with some strong malt aromas. The combination made for an interesting aroma. Not much of a hop smell.
Taste: Full-bodied with an interesting mix of malt, and coffee. There is a little chocolate flavor as well. As with the aroma, there is not much of a hop flavor to balance the malt.
Mouth feel: Full-bodied, but very smooth. Very creamy.
Overall: Good stout. I enjoyed the bottle that I drank, but the coffee flavor can dominate.
