Glass - Nonic
A - An amber colored brew with a nice red hue to it. There's a slight haze to it, and it produced a 2-finger head that didn't hold very long. I got a spot or two left on my glass, but no lacing.
S - Apricot, cherry, date, flowers, grapefruit rind, brown sugar, biscuit and pine.
T - I pick up caramel upfront, quickly following is lemon citrus and pine like hop oils. Biscuit like malts come in mid to finish. It finishes with bready, biscuit, brown sugar like malt flavors, low-moderate bitterness for an IPA, floral notes, and a touch of dryness.
M - Creamy, thick and full bodied with lite crispness.
O - This beer is verging on the sweet side, which I don't like, but it does offer a balanced flavor profile that's pretty tasty to me. I could definitely drink a couple of these in one sitting before retiring to something else, and I also think this beer could easily be a Red Ale instead of an IPA. It's just not that bitter, and it really does taste, look, and smell more like a Red.
Overall I like this beer, and I can see myself buying it again. Cheers!

Thee best SA offering I have had,I aboslutly loved this beer.Poured into an impy nonic a deep rich amber with one finger clingy off white head that took its time settling into a creamy mass, broken globs of lace left behind.Citric hops and nutty malt in the nose,a little roast and brown sugar-like sweetness in there as well.Great complexity of hops and malt on the palate, earthy, citric, leafy hops over top of caramel, nutty, and lightly roasted malt, mild brown sugar-like sweetness. This IRA has everything going for it,I loved it.

A: A medium dark copper with good clarity. There s good head stand of light tan foam. Good head retention.
S: Moderate citrus hops but nothing really exciting with a moderate caramel malt aroma.
T: The caramel malt flavor is just a little bit stronger than the citrus hop flavor. A moderate hops bitterness with a moderate malt sweetness giving a somewhat bitter balance. There is some lingering hops bitterness in the finish.
M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
O: With a name like Red IPA one would expect a fair amount of malt character but without enough hops bitterness and flavor I'm kind of disappointed in the overall balance. Maybe their looking to appeal to a broader audience like an IPA for those that don't like bitter beers. This bottle was from a case labeled best before June 2013 but the hops character s already muted.

Another typically solid offering from BBC. Apperance is great with a nice auburn color and good amounts of slightly off white lace. Smell was sweet and malty off the top with with some nuttiness hanging in the background. Flavor was a nice supprise with a typical red ale sweetness up front but backed up nicely with good piney hops in the finish which added a nice dry balance to the sweetness. Mouthfeel was not too thick, no too thin and carbonation level was nice. This is a very tasty brew and one I'd like to enjoy again.

Poured into a Sam Adams pint glass, this beer was a beautiful deep red color. It had a thick, sticky tan head. Pretty beer.
Nice aroma too. Strong citrus aroma, some brown sugar. Sweet, but not too sweet. A little bit of piney hops.
Good tast, but it didn't quite live up to the aroma. Garpefruit, piney/herbal hops. Definitely more on the cirtic side. Some toffee.
Smooth, nicely balanced.

A - Pours a clear deep red with two fingers of dense off-white head. Head was great retention and leaves a lot of lacing.
S - Big citrus aroma, along with some caramel, some floral aromas and a bit of bread.
T - Hops are not as prevalent in the taste as in the aroma. Big bread and caramel malt, with subtle hop bitterness that becomes more pronounced through the finish.
M - Slightly sticky mouthfeel with a dry finish and some lingering bitterness.
O - Pretty good IPA, but the aroma promises more than the taste delivers. Noit worth the equivalent of a $15 six pack, but I would have this again if the price point were lower.

12 oz bottle. Pours a dark reddish amber with a medium frothy off-white head that retains well and laces the glass.
The aroma is a bit subdued - some piney resiny hops and some fruit and roasty caramel/toffee malts.
The flavor is a bit odd - leathery sweet caramel/toffee malts with metallic resiny hops. The mouthfeel is light bodied and pretty watery.
Overall, rather strange with some off notes.

A - Pours a clear, dark, amber color with a tremendous rocky, off-white head that goes nowhere. Lots of lacing.
S - Citrus hops, bread, some caramel and toffee going on.
T - Citrus hops, doughy, and toffee/caramel up front and turns into grapefruit and pine in the finish. Nice and lasting hop bite. Nice citrusy burps...mmm
M - Decent body, not too carbonated, slightly astringent finish.
O - One of the best beers that SA has put out. Highly enjoyable and ridiculously quaffable. Cheers!

T --- nice balance of hops, malts. Caramel. More hops than any other Sam Adams beer I have ever had.
M --- light-medium body, good amount of carbonation
O --- A very solid beer! One of the best I have tried from Sam Adam.

22oz brown custom bomber with a batch # on the label.
LOOK: Ruby and clear, good showing of lace
SMELL: Dank hop resin, caramel, bread, broth, toasted grain, faint roast, chicory, light molasses, grapefruit, hemp seeds, herbal, exotic fruit, estery
TASTE: Creamy, full-ish body, smooth, pulling hops, some bitterness, caramel, mild char, grapefruit pith, mango, figs, tobacco, cotton candy, floral, fresh grass, bitter finish
A big ass Red Ale, the hops come around a few times to slap my palate. Hefty but not hard to sip, perhaps one of the best from this new series they have launched.

12 ounce from the hoppy box set, no freshness indication offered to the customer/consumer.
Pours dark brown/auburn, medium tan head, leaving nice looking, whispy lace.
Faint maly nose with a hint of ginger snaps.
Full flavor IPA with ample malting, spicing from the hops and complexity above and beyond your typical IPA.
Grapefruit highlights and cookie dought malt sweetness.
Not really my favorite flavor profile for an IPA. But this would likely do well on a cold winters night with some hearty fare.

Appearance: 1/3 inch head, moderate carbonation, red in color, clear
Smell: caramel malt and earthy and woodsy hops
Taste: sweet caramel start then a nice combination of earthy, piney, and some floral hops
Mouthfeel: medium body, sweet start with a bitter end, moderate carbonation
Overall: Nice multi-layered, complex brew with hops but it is not overly bitter which I appreciate. One of the more solid brews in the ipa sampler. I would look to getting this again in big bottle format.

The beer pours a dark reddish-brown color with an off-white head. The aroma is full of biscuit malt with a ton of pine from the hops. The flavor is more of the same. I get a lot of pine, with some richness from the caramel and biscuit malt and somewhat surprisingly, a little bit of alcohol. There is a lot of hop flaovr and a decent amount of hop bitterness. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Poured from bottle into a Sam Adams Glass.
Appearance: Darker copper color with a beige head that was thick. Medium lacing on the glass.
Smell: Pine, Hopsmaybe some roasted malts, an almost coffee like smell as well?
Mouthfeel/Taste: Smooth Medium bodied. Taste of pine notes with a sweeter toffee or coffee taste mixed in. Bitter hops at the end that give it spicy kick of almost a pepper taste.
Overll: Not a bad brew, one of the better IPAs to come out of that summer IPA varity pack Sam Adams put out.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Nonic Imperial Pint.
Appearance: Burnished, but still glowing, red with nice light tan head and some lacing rings. Great color.
Smell: Sweet caramel & toffee, along with citrus, pine, chocolate and spice.
Taste: Very malty core that is somewhat sweet with notes of caramel, toffee, dark fruit and light chocolate. The hops are noticeable but not over the top - very citrusy and slightly spicy & earthy. The finish is somewhat bitter with a definite pine-like character.
Feel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation. Quite smooth with a nice dry finish.
Overall: I really like big hoppy Red Ales, and while this isn't as big or great as something like Great Lakes Nosferatu, it is still delicious and well done. Even better, it doesn't taste like a standard Sam Adams beer.

Thick and foamy light khaki colored head. A bit darker than I expected, deep ruby color. Pretty good lacing as well.
Bright hop aroma, more herbal than citrus to me. I also detect a strange... metallic undertone maybe? Meh.
Tastes more citrusy than herbal, opposite of what I smelled. I'm getting a slight metallicy aftertaste as well. Bottle is fresh, maybe it's just me... Some roasted malt flavors come through underneath.
Feels coarse and bubbly.
I wish the metallic flavor I'm getting wasn't here, it's distracting. I will probably get this again to see if it's either my lack of sleep playing tricks on me, or this bottle.
