Appearance: Pours a clear deep red color with a 1/4" head of small tan bubbles on top after a pretty aggressive pour. There were lots of bubbles rising, and the head was about the same size a minute or so after the pour. There is some pretty heavy lacing left on the glass after drinking, so overall this is a pretty attractive beer.
Aroma: The aroma was pretty clean with hops being the predominant aspect, but there is plenty of supporting malt in there too with some caramel notes being the most noticeable. The hops are green and plentiful and are mixing pretty well with the malt overall.
Taste: The flavor is a bit bolder than I anticipated and actually has a mild acidic and almost roasty component which is a little odd. Overall the hops are leading the show with lots of flavor to go with the aroma initially, but they are pretty strong in the overall balance of the finish as well, so the hops carry you the whole way through the profile. The finish has some sweetness and a few toasty notes from the malt, but the hops are in charge of the balance overall. The beer is medium bodied with plenty of carbonation, and the carbonation is actually helping to dry the finish out a bit. As the beer warms up some, there is a subtle perfume coming out that I guess is hop derived.
Opinion: This is a pretty decent beer. The flavor was a bit of a shocker to me and I am getting used to it after about half the bottle, but it is a bit acidic. This won't stop me from drinking all of the beer, but I don't know if I will need to come back to this one. If you are a hop-head, I would give this one a shot as it is a pretty decent beer overall, it just isn't really MY "cup of tea".
