Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

Look – nice dark red color, clear, with about two fingers’ worth of frothy, khaki-colored foam that dissipates somewhat slowly.

Smell – earthy hoppiness, but with an even more grounded type of quality, possibly from the malts. Tasmanian hops don’t seem to cast too much of a different aroma, but it does seem to be a blending of the smells of Cascade and maybe Saaz.

Taste – the taste of the hops is felt first, and then the bitter kick from them is next. The bitter, pine needle-like taste is very interesting. The malts are hard to pick out, but they’re likely balancing out the taste quite a bit.

Mouthfeel – pretty well balanced, not seeming to lean more toward the watery or creamy sides.

Overall – not a bad brew at all. Doesn’t seem to be very complex, but the taste itself is still very interesting.

Poured from a stylish "bomber" bottle into a standard pint glass.
Clear copper in color, with a big, blossoming head of off-white foam.
Aroma-fruity hops
Taste-Grapefruit, caramel, toasted malt, faintly spicy. Interesting hop flavor. Flavorfull, intersting IPA.

Pours a dark brown-red with a creamy root beer head. Excellent head retention. Just a nice looking beer in my standard pint glass. Delightful grapefruit and butterscotch (not diacetyl) nose. Grapefruit and caramel malt flavors. A surprisingly interesting and complex beer. This is one of the two above average beers from Boston Brewing I've had.

Had this on 2012-03-02 in Columbia, PA at Bully's.

A - Dark, clear ruby-mahogany with a short, tan head and excellent lacing.

S - Light roasted malt and spice. Not very aromatic.

T - Different. Straw, toffee, medium roasted grain with a bit of wheat, touch of pine and citrus. A decent hop bite. Finish has a sour and spicy rye flavor and moderate lingering bitterness.

M - Medium body and carbonation. Substantial yet crisp.

O - Nothing wrong with this but nothing extraordinary. Definitely wasn't worth the $6.00 for a 12 oz pour.

Picked up earlier today at Shwas for $4.99...

Pours a clear, deep copper color with scattered, sporadic carbo. Head is billowy and tan, sitting at 1" on the liquid and leaving nice lacework behind. Nose has a lot of rindy, citrussy action, with little malt evident. Disappointed with the mouthfeel; it is smooth but rather on the thin side.

The flavor has a light touch of toffee sweetness, though it is fleeting. There is a healthy amount of pithy, rindy action, with some earthy, bittering grapefruit, which lingers on the palate. There is not too much in the way of depth or complexity here, though. It is decent, but not the best of the new Sammy line I've had lately. Prosit!

Appearance: dark sorghum. Substantial off white head. Reads red ipa. Certainly not pale.
Smell: malt with a distinct hop edge. Nothing remarkable, but it is pleasant.
Smell: again, a tasty mix of hops and malt, pretty well balanced. Not remarkable, but tasty.
Overall: I hate to repeat, but yes, a good beer though not a standout.

11 ounce pour - Taco Mac in Canton, Georgia.

Appearance: Served up a clear, very dark amber-hued body with an inch of lightly yellowed foam. Lasting layers of lace tracking my progress.

Smell: Toasted bread toasted enough to yield burnt edges, milk caramel (like a Sugar Daddy), citric, pithy citrus fruits, and a light but interminable element of spice.

Taste: A big start of malty breadiness with some darkened toast and plenty of chewy caramel candies. Fast florals, lemon, and a layer of heavy grapefruit with a persistent spiciness running its course. Moderate bitterness. Drying, pithy finish with some enduring bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium carbonation. Maybe a little chewiness present.

Overall: I was pleasantly surprised by this one. BBC did a good job with this release.

Purchased 22 Oz bomber and poured into a Pilsner glass.

A - Pours a dark reddish and amber color. Huge 3 inch thick head at first that dissipates quickly yet maintains a quarter of an inch all the way down. Leaves big thick chunks of lacing throughout.

S - Sweet and malty comes to the forefront followed by faint citrus notes.

T - Big and rich flavors to start followed by the bitter elements. A nice balance.

O - This is a nice combination of an American Amber/Red with IPA elements. One 22 oz bomber is enough for one sit down as this beer is quite powerful and enjoyable over a long period of time. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who likes Ambers/Red or IPA's. This is an excellent entry into two different styles.

Pours dark amber with a big chunky cream-colored head. Gobs of foam and lace.

Citric hops and burnt sugars dominate the nose. It works.

The toffee is off-putting at first, with bitter burnt sugar intermingled with citric and piney hops. The malt helps balance the beer, but this is a hoppy beer. I like the hops better than the malt. Good but not great.

Medium bodied. solid carbonation.

Overall, you like this more as you drink it. A sampler would not yield a good result. Strength of flavor is a plus. Different, but that's also the fun. Worth a try.
