A: Dark copper with a large foamy head.

S: Very spicy! dank and herbal with a quality that reminds me of onion. earthy with a little sweet caramel.

T: Once again the spicy hops shine here! Its herbal, dank, earthy with a wonderful full malt backbone. There is some pine here that reminds me of a wet forest. A dry hoppy finish.

M: Not much in the way of carbonation and a little syrupy.

O: A great example of the style. Wonderful spicy hops is refreshing! Its a good price for a great beer! I enjoy this much more on my second go around than the first time i had it. /85

Poured this 22oz bottle into a pint glass. Poured a clear golden color, produced an average white head, good retention and left an average amount of lacing on the glass. The aroma consisted of fresh cut grass, orange citrus, baked bread. Full bodied, this double IPA had a foundation of toasted malt, bitter hops, and tea. Overall, not a bad double IPA but I expected a bit more out of this offering. Little light on the hops.

Consumed May 27th, 2013.

Beer pours a clear orange/honey color. Very nice foamy, one-finger off-white head.

Aroma is gingerbread and other dark baked cookies. Slightly peppery as well.

Terribly sweet flavor. Somewhat metallic. Very bitter hop presence. Unsophisticated and borderline undrinkable to this non-hophead.

Medium mouthfeel and decent carbonation.

Not a fan. Won't be drinking this one again unless it's a free pour.

Appearance: Bright copper; huge, tan, frothy head, long lasting

Aroma: Mostly bready, with a slight hint of grapefruit; slightly earthy

Taste: Hits you up front with strong hop bitterness, then moves quickly into a malty, warming alcohol, slightly syrupy; then finishes dry and slightly bitter; pretty unique

Remarks: 8% alcohol per volume

Did not score A, T, S, M at that time; disregard those scores

Sam Adams Third Voyage Double IPA: Dark copper to reddish body that is topped by an ample off white head, but the lasing is so so. The aroma is more malt than hops. The flavor follows suit, it is very malty for a double IPA, but all Sam Adams product favor malt over hops. I must admit there are some good flavors swirling around in the glass, hints of licorice and caramel, and piney resin. I wish that hops would be a little more bold. Overall, a better Sam Adams product than most.
