I got this as part of Sam Adam's Spring 12pk Brewer's Collection for $13.39 at Woodman's in Janesville, WI in Winter 2011.

Pours a clear, reddish, amber color with a slight white frothy head. Scent is mostly that of dry malts. There is a unique taste here. Has obvious malt taste but with roasted tones. There are hints of vanilla and the oak really comes out in the dry finish. Another decent brew from Sam Adams, but why oh why does this only come in a 12pk variety pack?

Pours a very clear chestnut-red with little to no head on it.

Smells malty sweet, typical of a red ale. This beer has a tanginess that immediately attacks the sides of my tongue. A trace taste of vanilla leaves a silky feeling on the palate. Definitely malt forward with no noticeable hop presence. As suggested by the title, the wood plays a big factor in the taste with positive results.

A very well crafted beer. Another winner from the Boston Beer Co.

12 oz. bottle poured into pint.

A: Clear amber with thick, frothy khaki head. Good retention and lacing.

S: Smells of vanilla, caramel and a tinge of hops.

T: Rich vanilla and caramel up front. Finishes like a Boston Lager with a bit of hops and a tinge of vanilla and cream. Very light oak notes throughout. I really like the aftertaste....it's yummy :D

M: Thicker side of medium. Nice, creamy, and frothy. Appropriate for the taste and style.

O: Seems more winter-y than spring, but quite nice nonetheless. Not as oak-y as the name of the beer would have you think, but there's a slight overtone of oak throughout. I really like this beer...more than I thought I was going to....

Been really impressed with this mixed pack...probably my favorite mixed pack that BBC has released.

Best damn beer i have tasted from the sam adams family of beers. refreshing, colorful, nice 1 finger off white head. wanted more of this beer than the 12 pack brew masters special offered. very sharp taste . equally as sharp after taste. not to bitter not to smoked tasting. quite perfectly infused in my opinion.
