This was a 12oz bottle from the spring mixed 12 pack I picked up at Evergreen Liquors in Frederick, MD ($15.99).
Look: Definitely unfiltered given the hazy gold color with lots of floaters moving around. The head was a frothy off-white color. Carbonation level was not bad with some steady bubbles rising up from the laser etching in the SA Perfect Pint glass.
Smell: Sweet citrus with some biscuit in the background. A slight sour note came through reinforcing the lager component. A faint Wheat Beer character seemed to be present with the high level of crispness in the aroma.
Taste: Light on the palate. First up was a brief carbonation rush followed by a sweet biscuit. A honey flavor hit around the finish. A diet soda aftertaste brought up the end and quickly lead into some residual sweetness.
This was a little disappointing for me in the taste. The aroma and unfiltered appearance promised a slightly more complex palate than what I got. But hey, it’s another seasonal notch on the Sam Adams belt I guess. That’s all that seems to count these days.
