Kellerbier / Zwickelbier |  5.50% ABV

Availability: Spring

Notes/Commercial Description:
Borne of our brewers’ many trips to Germany, Alpine Spring features a unique blend of lager attributes: the balanced maltiness and hoppiness of a Helles, the smoothness and slightly higher alcohol of a traditional spring bock, and the unfiltered appearance of a Kellerbier. The beer is brewed with Noble Tettnang hops to add a unique, bright orange-citrusy aroma and flavor.

Ontap at The Sandlot in Morris IL.

Very nice golden color, slightly hazy, bright white foamy head. Really impressive retention and lacing.

Smells of some good sweet malt, like pilsner and crystal perhaps? There is a a pleasant, well-balanced hop note here-- mainly lemony, grassy, and floral.

The flavor is exactly like the nose-- very nicely balanced with a smooth toasty sweet malt and a mild bitterness at the backend.

Feel is light an well-carbonated. If this were in cans, this would be a PERFECT summertime beer for out on the boat. Highly drinkable, tasty, and flavorful enough to be interesting.
Certainly one of my favorites from SA.

Well done.

pours a cloudy medium gold in color thick two finger white head and lots of sticky lace that both hold up very well. strong bold citrus and a light floral aroma. nice blending of the orange citrus taste with the yeast and hops. smooth medium mouthfeel and slight pepper taste. this beer wins on all counts. i see this beer going a long way with sam adams. definitely one of their better brewed beers.

Cloudy amber-brown in appearance with a bubbly egg head up top. An orange hue comes through as well. Head slims to a rim.

Smells a touch peppery; bready with a citrusy/lemon edge. Hints of burnt rubber at times (odd, but not gross). Light and refreshing in the nose. Both spring & summer seem like appropriate seasons for imbibing this judging from the aroma.

Dry biscuit cuts in the taste pulling itself up front. Spicy hops flavor throws in. Peppery; lemon juice. Lime. Bittering hops lie in the middle, allowing this one to wash away clean.

I'll try it on-tap next.

A - Beautiful, pours a hazy yellow with a finger of white head. Very nice looking brew.

S - Get a good crisp lemony or orange peel with slight floral notes on the nose. Very respectable.

T - Refreshing Helles flavor backed up with bright citrus flavors but enough malts to satisfy the balance.

M - Has a nice level of small bubble carbonation that enhances the refreshing spring flavors and finishes very clean with just a fine balance of malt.

O - Very impressive complex lager for a seemingly simple beer. Well done Boston Beer!

12 oz brown bottle, best by month notched on label

A - Golden, hazed, two finger white foam retains decently and has some lacing.

S - Lemon zest hops, grassy, with some biscuit malt and a little yeasty.

T - Sturdy bready, biscuit malts you can expect in a lager, with some hops coming in mid palate adding lemon, grassy flavors, in a moderate bitterness. Finishes with some more bready sweetness with grassy hops mixed in.

M - Light/medium body, high carbonation level, but still stays nice and light, creamy across the palate. Finishes slightly crisp, mostly clean with noticeable bitterness.

O - I enjoyed this one. Prominent hop content for a lager, with goes nice with the malts, which surprises me that its not scored higher overall. Crisp and refreshing, definitely something to drink in the warmer weather.
