Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: BDIMike on 12-22-2011

Borne of our brewers’ many trips to Germany, Alpine Spring features a unique blend of lager attributes: the balanced maltiness and hoppiness of a Helles, the smoothness and slightly higher alcohol of a traditional spring bock, and the unfiltered appearance of a Kellerbier. The beer is brewed with Noble Tettnang hops to add a unique, bright orange-citrusy aroma and flavor.

Bought a 12 pack on a whim. Best by July, 2013. Pours a bright, light but straw color & very cloudy. Bright white 2 finger head that slowly settles to a thin cover that lasts with thin lacing. Aroma of the hops along with some lemony(?) citrus & floral is rather nice. Taste keeps with the aroma of slight grassy hop character, some crisp citrus balanced with a little wheat. Clean mouthfeel. Really, really surprised by how good this was and how much I enjoyed it. I really like this. Will recommend this to others.

Pours a cloudy off-golden color, with a white fluffy head that dissipates slowly. Some lacing.

Smells of earth, malt, subtle hops and a hint of citrus. But not overpowering.

Taste is sweet malt, with some hints of citrus, and just a slight hop finish. A hint of hops in the after taste with lingering malty sweetness.

Mouthfeel has some creaminess up front, some carbonation and a full-bodies finish. Very smooth, and easy to drink.

A very nice beer. I was a little surprised that this is a Keller beer. It reminded me of a Helles, but the unfiltered style gave it some interesting subtle notes. I will buy this beer again.

A - Pours a hazy straw. Thin white head that gives way to slight clumpy lacing.

S - Pilsner malts. Slight citrus hops aroma. Some fruit esters.

T - Bright pilsner malts mix with mild fruit esters; banana/clove (Hefeweizen yeast?) It is very bright and playful. There is a citrus (orange) hops finish that is very clean.

M - Medium.

O - This was my first Zwickel (or Keller) and I enjoyed it greatly. It falls somewhere between a Hefe and a Pils and fans of either style should be sure to try this Sam Adams release.

Pours a nice cloudy orange color with a big head that overflowed the glass. Left lots of lace.

Aroma is floral and sweet from the hops and citrus, a bit of malt aroma as well.

Taste has some yeastiness, malty. There is a really nice citrus flavor, like oranges or tangerines, but not overpowering or dominant. The orange flavor reminded me of Sunny Delight. A bit of hop bitterness on the finish.

Drinkability is good and overall really refreshing.

A: pours a golden straw color with about a half inch of white head, leaves very little lace

S: sweet, very little hop presence and a nice citrusy element, though expected for being a lager

T: sweet and a small amount of citrus and yeast character, a slight hop element on the finish as well

M: thin to medium body, good carbonation

O: a decent beer, though one of the best lagers I have had
