Notes/Commercial Description:
Borne of our brewers’ many trips to Germany, Alpine Spring features a unique blend of lager attributes: the balanced maltiness and hoppiness of a Helles, the smoothness and slightly higher alcohol of a traditional spring bock, and the unfiltered appearance of a Kellerbier. The beer is brewed with Noble Tettnang hops to add a unique, bright orange-citrusy aroma and flavor.

Very Drinkable beer. This is a great for the season after a many months of big malty beers. It is very light crisp citrus beer with biscuit notes. It is making me long for the warmer weather and long summer days to come.

I can't wait to drink this on the deck of some ski mountain in the weeks to come.

Great Spring Session Beer!!!

Came in the glass a cloudy yellow with a small white head.

The smell was of citrus hops and malts. Not particularly strong but pleasant none the less.

The taste was light and crisp. Some citrus from the hops but quite subtle.

This had light feel to it with a nice level of carbonation.

This was the first beer I've had in this style and I liked it. I'd recommend this if you fancy something a bit different.

Edit. Tried this again in a bottle was no way near as good.I'd give this maybe a 3 in the bottle, big difference.

This is my new favorite summer beers. For people who drink typical bud light or coors light, this may be a spring beer, but for avid drinkers who like more flavor, this would be the perfect summer beer.

Wheat beers can get a little boring or heavy during the summer so this beer would be a tasty light beer to drink. There are a ton of different very subtle flavors in this beer which is pretty amazing for a light beer from the largest "craft brewery" in the country. There is citrus, balanced perfectly with the hop bitterness. Then, the beer is unfiltered so it has a light-medium mouth-feel to it and a bit of fruity flavor similar to wheat beers. Will definitely buy it again and try to stock up in case they stop selling it in the summer.

What a nice surprise, a new seasonal from Sam Adams. Even. Better noble pile going year round. Anyway, back to this beer.

I read a few reviews and the one thing others well at least a few hav said they picked up on lemon. Funny how everyone's taste is different. This beer contains no lemon and Jim himself said so. I didn't detect any hints of lemon myself which if there was I'd know it since I despise lemon in a beer.

The color is beautiful hazy gold. Nice fluffy head that leaves lacing.

Smell is of hops and floral.

Taste is very light crisp and towards the end bitter. The hop citrus I got if any thing was tangerine and not lemon.

Very refreshIng beer.

A home run.

Nice addition to the Sammy lineup.

Hops lend a lemony and herbal feel on the nose....grassy perhaps...the lemony flavor from the hops is more pronounced on the taste but herbal notes remain. Nice flavorfull honey bread maltiness on the taste...

Very tasty beer that would fit nicely in the late spring/early summer but is tasting just fantastic in early January as well. Would be a real nice BBQ beer....shit bring this and noble pils for the day and you are set.

Poured a 12 ounce bottle into a Samuel Adams Boston Lager glass. Freshness date clearly marked enjoy by before June.

This is a very hazy beer, as you can definitely see the suspended yeast haze against the pale malts. Orange like hues are visible throughout as well.

The nose of this brew is orange blossom and floral hops with a nice bread malt character to round everything out. Taste is very similar, except the floral hops seem to really come through more. Incidentally, this is a beer style that isn't really known for it's hop character, but the BBC did a wonderful job with making the Tettnanger hops present all the way to the finish, but they never raise their voice too much for the style.

The unfiltered aspect of this beer creates a complexity I have never had before in a helles, as it seems to add to the mouthfeel and contribute to some slight ester flavors including peach and mango. The bread character from the malt does a nice job in the taste of well of keeping everything balanced until the end. The overall malt character is also very nice, as I pick up a slight honey sweetness that is perfectly balanced and rides through until the end and met by a nice lemon and floral note from the hops. Bitterness is fairly low but adequate and no alcohol whatsoever can be detected either. Mouthfell is very nice, as the yeast seems to contribute to a somewhat full bodied character with an appropriate level of carbonation.

Overall, this is a home run from Sam Adams. There aren't that many helles lagers brewed domestically, and this is a style that simply does not travel well, so having one available fresh is great. Many smaller breweries simply don't have the capacity and necessary equipment to give enough time to age a well made lager, so this is something Sam Adams definitely has an advantage with. The BBC does a great job with lagers, and this is an excellent addition to their lineup.

Tough to review this one. Right off the bat I'll say, I really like this beer.

The appearance is a cloudy but bright golden orange color. I know it says unfiltered on the bottle, but I felt the cloudyness was a bit over done. I'm in the land of Keller/Zwickel biers and they arent cloudy.

The taste is great! Very floral and just a slight citrus zest to it. Perfect perfect perfect for this time of year. The malt backbone is subtle and slightly sweet.

The mouthfeel is also where point wise, I gotta knock it down. It's slightly full and slick. It should be crisp. It's not.

Overall, I know I said some bad things about this beer, but I love it. Stylistically, if it were an ale, it would be a different story but since it's a keller bier, it had to knock it. But I love it. It's just starting to warm up and it goes great with the first two BBQ's I've had this year. Really reminds me of a lighter maibock.

Got this on tap at the local Loco's. Looks amazing! Beautiful copper with slight haze cuz its unfiltered. Three finger white cap that sticks around and leaves huge rings on the glass.

The aroma is fresh and hoppy with a caramel backbone. Grassy and herbal notes with a hint of citrus.

Nice balance of caramel, bready notes, and biscuit in the back with huge floral and herbal notes, some lemon zest, and other citrus.

Medium, almost creamy, smooth

Absolutely delicious and well balanced.

Beauiful creamy head on this beer, nicely capping a pale golden but hazy colour underneath. Nose is quite appetizing with miscellaneous floral and herbal notes. Palate offers some slightly sweet malt flavors and a nice zinging hop profile to round it out. Medium bodied and amazingly drinkable. Reviewing to style, wow this is a great beer.

Poured this beer from a 24 oz. bottle into a large mug. I've only seen it in the store for about a week, so it's pretty fresh. "Best by" is June 2012.

A: Cloudy orange, bright white head. Looks like a beer you can gulp, and I did, more than once.

S: Bready, yeasty smell, some light hops. Very fragrant.

T: Absolutely delicious!!! I took one mouthful, smiled, then took two more gulps. So good. I almost can't be that specific; all I know is it was gone it ten minutes. When I was done, I wanted more. Little hops flavor, but it's there enough to counteract the yeasty profile. Blue Moon's older, smarter, cooler, hotter sister.

M: Light on the palate, sweet/sour taste from the unfiltered yeast.

O: I cannot wait to buy a case of this. When it was gone, I wanted more. I could drink 5 or six of these. I wasn't even planning to review it, but I had to after I drank it. Sooo good. I would buy this year-round (**hint-hint** BBC).

Twelve ounce bottle freshness dated for july 2012, Brewmaster's Collection.

Pours clouded lemon yellow body with nice but short lasting white head. Not much lacing. Scent is lemon grass. Taste is zingy lemon, citrus, honey. A little bit acidic, but very nice overall.

Easily one of my top 3 favorite beers. Beautiful beer from start to finish. Nice pour. Collects a little (and I mean little) sediment in the bottle if the course of a few days in the fridge, but didn't effect tasting. I can't think of much that could be done to improve this, aside from moving it out of the seasonal catagory, and over to year-round "Brewmaster's collection."

A KELLER or Zwickel (love that word...) beer....by America's largest brewer* no less. AMAZING!!!!

A: Looks great poured in with slight haze (to be expected in this style) with a generous long lasting head, and sticky lacing.

S: Nothing to write home about, just about like barley bread--again classic for this (very rare outside of homebrew-circles in America) style of very traditional lager. Still its nice comfort-beer aroma.

T: An extremely drinkable almost thick, down-home beer, just crisp enough in hops to clean the palate....but mild enough to not scare away mass-production-beer drinkers. Makes you want to make a meal of it....and the aftertaste is like if you just had some fresh-baked bread--classic German/Czech lager...and FINALLY an American brewer has a version that can take-on any German brewer. (Even in Germany Zwickel is old-fashioned and not so common). For this style--a helles/pils cross in a Keller (unfiltered) version, simply outstanding.

No, the Hop-is-like-estrogen heads won't like it...but good, more for the rest of us!!!

M: Very rich and smooth mouthfeel, must be from the yeast going down.

Overall: Just a terrific, basic....beer. Nothing to put in your journal, just something to look forward too at the end of the day....

Ein Prosit!!!

I absolutely love this beer, despite the fact there is a foot of snow outside and I can't understand how this is a spring release when I am drinking it in the dead of winter...

Pours a hazy light orange with a fluffy 2 finger head; nice retention, but eventually dissipates to a minimal lingering head.
Nose: notes of citrus (orange and lemon) with a hint of graininess.
Taste: Strong citrus upfront with a hint of floral hops. A bready, almost toasty malt back balances out the strong yet delicate hoppiness. Finishes with a grassy bitterness and a little more citrus, almost...almost tartness like a Berliner Weiss (probably just wishful thinking, as I haven't had any sour goodness in some time).
Mouthfeel: Very creamy, yet crisp and light...perfect!

Overall: a killer "replacement" for Noble Pils, really wish this thing was a new year round release.
Additionally, as a serious advocate of German beers, especially lagers, I think Sam Adams nailed this one.
I really appreciate the thought that went behind this "concept beer" as it is a melding of some of my favorite German styles! A must try for anyone who appreciates a beer with superb balance, character, and a nice change of pace!

appearance - 4.5/5 - Pours a hazy yellow with a finger of white head.

smell - 4/5 - Smells of lemon or orange peel.

taste - 5/5 - Instantly refreshing Helles flavor backed up by bright citrus flavors. There's more in there that I can't quite describe as anything besides "Helles".

mouthfeel - 5/5 - Has a high level of small bubble carbonation that enhances the refreshing spring flavors and clears out those flavors making room for the next swallow.

overall - 5/5 - Quite an impressive complex lager for a seemingly simple beer.

A - honey colored, unfiltered with lots of sediment, and a frothy white head that leaves some nice lacing.

S - It smells of honey, sweetness, citrusy and floral hops, some very slight malt, and lemon citrus.

T - Lemon zest, some pepper and spice, a tad bit of grain, and then the floral and citrus hops come in, finishing off with a mouthful of pure white breadiness, which lingers in the aftertaste.

Overall, this is the best lager I have ever had. It's the beer I always dreamt of finding. This is what I would have tried to brew if I had ever brewed beer.

Absolutely perfect. I just which the aroma was slightly more prominent.
