A: thin milk chocolate head on a jet black body. looked like motor oil as poured.
S: lots of chocolate and vanilla, roasted malt, some espresso roast with a subtle earthy hop note and sourness.
T: roasted malts from start to finish which linger a long time. lots of coffee. nice dark chocolate and toffee sweetness.
M: full, thick bodied. moderate carbonation. VERY smooth.
Overall: thick stout. aroma is complex with the flavor less so but still nicely drinkable for the style.

From notes 9/7/12: Pours a brown so deep as to appear tar black. The pour produces 1.5 fingers of mocha, moderately lasting, dense, tightly bubbled but frothy on top head that unfortunately leaves only thin lacing. The nose is dark roasted malt, cocoa, caramel, prune and a slight floral hint. Taste is dark malt with a burnt note: dark chocolate, toffee, dark fruits and smoke. Hops are there in the background but in a mixture I can quite define. A caramel/cola sweetness characterizes the finish. Following the mid-sip a pleasant bitter quality develops and increases through the finish where it balances with the sweetness but soon dominates the aftertaste. Mouthfeel is heavy bodied with low carbonation, creamy and smooth but chewy with an oily viscosity,

12 oz bottle from 2012 poured into a Blind Tiger snifter. Best by notches on 08/12...whoops.
A: Pours a thick, mocha colored head. Inky black body with plenty of creamy lacing.
S: Lots of dry, roasted black malts that bring to mind dark chocolate, iced coffee, and soy sauce. Some cherry sweetness towards the end with a bit of oxidation. Kind of like a s'more.
T: Dry black malts, smoke, maraschino cherries and oxidized chocolate. A bit of a boozy finish.
Mf: Medium feel with a very velvety low carbonation. Some heat but not too much for the listed ABV. Sticky sweet and dry.
Overall: Has held up ok over two years but this was probably better fresh. As it is it's gotten a bit of that smokey, oxidized black malt flavor that might mellow out with a few years. Really nice mouthfeel.

2013 longshots,
I poured this beer into a glass, it has black body with a small tanbb head. The aroma has a roasty, chocolate smell. The taste is of roasted, chocolate, malt. As it warms up i get some dark fruit notes also. The mouthfeel is good and overall a good ris.

Appearance - impressive pour, inky and oily. A fat finger of dark mocha foam sets up and hangs around a while, hanging some thick lace on the glass. Melts back a little fast but still holding on a solid cover.
Aroma - darkly roasted malt, bittersweet chocolate. maybe not as layered as some others but an excellent presentation of the primary I.S. elements.
Taste - big and roasty, dark and delicious. Notes of currant, fig, espresso, black cherry skins. The abv is melded without coming across hot or intrusive.Finishes with dry, gritty cocoa powder and drying sweetness.
Mouthfeel - not as heavy as some, but enough heft to hold its own. Carbonation is lively but a little overwhelmed by the smooth body.
Overall - one of the best Longshots yet. One more bottle, at least a year or two until that one pops.

Black. One of the darkest heads I've ever seen on a beer. Excellent retention with thick foam clinging to the glass. Aromas of sweet milk chocolate and roast, caramel and bittersweet chocolate, faint alcohol and light hops. Moderate citrusy bitterness, sort of sweet with chocolate and caramel, licorice and roast, lingering bittersweet character. Full to heavy in body, kind of thick, lowish carbonation, creamy and a bit warm with mild astringency. Pretty good overall. There were a lot of nice flavours here, but left the impression that there could have been more depth.
