Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Sam Adams "Perfect Pint" glass.

Appearance: Pours a bright and clear golden straw orange with a lot of rising bubbles. Big four finger white head with decent retention. Leaves a lot of lacing clinging to the glass.

Smell: A fairly tart and sweet citrus lemon driven aroma. Big scent of lemon juice upfront along with some hints of orange. Smells a lot like a glass of lemon lime soda. Pale malt background with some hints of bready biscuit, cracker, grains, and yeast. Very zesty with a slight hint of spice. Decent aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a tart taste driven by zesty lemon juice and backed by a light bready malt presence. Big taste of lemon lime juice throughout along with some orange. Soft bready pale malts with notes of biscuit, grains, cracker, and yeast. Pilsner malt undertones. Kind of tastes more like a lemon soda than a lager beer but the malt is noticeable. Decent for the style.

Mouthfeel: Light bodied with a fairly high level of carbonation. Crisp, clean, and very smooth. Fairly tart.

Overall: An ok fruit juice beer. Does what it sets out to be, a hot weather thirst quencher. More lemon soda like than beer but its a decent soda/beer.

12 oz bottle, poured into a Samuel Adams pint glass

Appearance: Pours a light golden color with a quarter of a finger of white head that dissolved quickly into a thin lacing of beer that settled over the center of the beer. Honestly, it looks like a Budweiser. Ugly “yellow beer.”

Aroma: Very citrusy, and not much else. Maybe some grassy notes too, but really, all I’m really getting is lemon ad grapefruit.

Taste: Wow, very citrusy, like this is Samuel Adams’ version of Corona with lime, Landshark, or god-forbid, Bud-Light Lime (gag me with a fucking chainsaw). I get a lot of lemon/lime, some grapefruit, and even grapes, and some peaches, but no beer flavor, at all. Honestly, it reminds me of a wine cooler. Ah, ok, now I see. The label talks about German cyclists mixing beer and lemonade, so this is essentially a shandy. Now I get it. Still don’t like it, but I get it.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied, with some good carbonation to cleanse the palate and tickle the tastebuds.

Overall: I’m not a fan of this beer, mainly because I don’t like shandys. That being said, the flavors are interesting and I’m assuming that it’s a pretty good example of what a shandy is supposed to taste like, and I think that it would be a great beer to use to try to convert those BMC drinkers, or Landshark drinkers or Corona drinkers to American craft beer.

My first "Shandy" beer.

Pours a light yellow color, not much of a head at all, bubbles seem pretty fizzy, no lacing, very clear looking.

Smell is mostly sweet, malt dominated with a subtle lemon zest aroma.

Taste starts off with a lemon zing, sweet malt balances it out from being too tart, no hop presence whatsoever though, fairly one note with the lemonade aspect, carbonation is high but appropriate, fairly crisp finish considering the tart/sweet aspects.

I can see this being a good lawnmower beer, it's certainly refreshing enough.
