Served on-tap at the Sam Adams brewery in Jamaica Plain, Boston.
A: Poured a slightly murky, orange-yellow color with a tight head of white foam. Lacing and head retention were great.
S: Smells a bit spicy and citrus-laden, with aromas of corriander, lemon and orange zest, and a host of musty spices.
T: Taste is as creamy as it is drying at first, with a wheaty palate and a zesty orange overflow. The hopping is delicate, and most of the falvor comes from the sweet malts and added spices. As refreshing as it is flavorful.
M: Mouthfeel is crisp initially, building to a zesty, creamy orange with a smooth finish.
D: A nice flavor reminiscent of the comings of spring and a modest ABV make this a very drinkable beer and a nice spring session, if you're a wheat/white fan.
People may knock Sam White Ale as being weak for the style, but I think it's one of the better crafted ones. It doesn't err on the strong side of maltiness or spiciness, but is palateable with many foods.
