This came in a recent 12 pack variety where this was 1 of 6 styles. May '11 is notched on the back label.
Pours a ruddy, dirty goldenrod into my Sam Adams scientific glass. The liquid is cloudy with a translucent lime-colored glow. The loose bright white head settles at 1/2". Teeny tiny bubble rise up from the bottom. Near perfect dripping rings of lace all the way down.
Sweet & tart notes tempt my nose. Yeasty funk weaves in-between the tangy citrus parade like fumbling clowns on unicycles.
Straight-to-the-point wheat malt mixes well with the aforementioned sweet/citric/tart scents that translate perfectly to their flavors. There's a mineral saltiness to this concoction that's a bit weird, but not off putting. Well balanced albeit a bit one dimensional.
Mouthfeel is spot-on for the style; airy, playful fine carbonation with a prickly texture. Finish is quick, begging for a bigger next gulp.
Drinkability is great. Did I mention the begging for a bigger next gulp?
Overall a great utilitarian Wit. Nothing to ponder, just gulp and grin. A very good rendition of the style's texture and appearance, just wished there was a bit more presence of tart/citrus notes in the flavor. Good brew for the soft days of springtime for sure.
